Obituary of Ross McPherson
Ross McPherson, of Denville, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 2, 2018. He was 84.
Born in Buffalo, NY to the late Colin and Audrey McPherson, Ross was raised in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada. After receiving an MSc in Physics at Queens University in Kingston Ontario, Ross attended McGill University in Montreal, Québec, where he graduated with a PhD in Physics. He did his post doctorate work at Brookhaven National Labs on Long Island and then for many years taught first at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and then at University of Guelph in Ontario before transitioning into a successful 20+ year career as a Physicist / Engineer at Bell Labs in Whippany, NJ. Ross had many passions including teaching, camping, canoeing, hiking, traveling, and sailing. He will be remembered as a man of wry wit, extensive engineering and medical knowledge and as one gifted with both generous spirit and unconditional love.
Predeceased by his son, Bruce McPherson, and granddaughter, Savannah, he has left treasured memories to his beloved wife of 41 years, Helen Jeronimus; his loving children, Douglas McPherson and Bemmie McPherson-Jelly and her husband Brian; Nancy, mother of Douglas and Bemmie; his cherished grandchildren, Parker, Kaitlyn, Natalie, and Declan; and many other extended family and friends.
Memorial Service will be held in Canada at a later date to be announced. Please leave a condolence and special memory for his family. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Ross’s memory to The Nature Conservancy in either United States or Canada.
