Obituary of Cathy Barrett
Cathy Barrett passed away peacefully in her sleep at her cherished Denville home, on Sunday, July 7th, 2024. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, gigi, aunt, and friend to many. She will always be missed, remembered, and loved by those she leaves behind.
Cathy was born into a warm loving Sicilian family in January of 1943 to the late Carmelo and Angela Riccioli. She was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. At the age of 16 she met the love of her life David and they were married two years later and started a family. Cathy and Dave then moved their young growing family to what used to be a small town, Denville, NJ in 1968. They chose to live in the Indian lake section of town, where their beautiful family grew. Cathy was right there with them the entire time; she was a part of every aspect of her kids lives. She was the room mom, cool mom, scout leader, neighborhood mom, and our wonder woman. She was soft but tough, nothing got by her. Cathy was fiercely loyal and the best keeper of secrets, and was always a trusted listening ear. Most of all she enjoyed any and every minute spent with her family, from traveling the world with them on family vacations to just sharing a meal. She loved them dearly and they loved her. With her friends and family, she always gave the most valuable asset, her time. Cathy was the person you could lean on when life’s challenges appeared and the person who enjoyed celebrating all of the simple joys as well.
Although we are saddened by her loss, we take comfort in knowing she is now finally reunited with her loving husband of 46 years, David Barrett. She now looks to those to continue her memory, her devoted children Dr. David Barrett III and his wife Karin, William Barrett and his wife Jennifer, and Demetria Glaab and her husband Curtis. Her loving grandchildren Curtis and his wife Kristina, Sean Iris and his husband Michael, Briana Frost and her husband Joe, Christopher, Lauren, Beth, Kristin, Julia and Billy. Her adored great grandchildren who gave her the proud title of “GiGi”, Mason, Colton, Tyler, Amelia, and Viviana. Her sister Anna Castellano and many other loving cousins, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her cherished cat, Bella.
Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family for visitation on Sunday July 14th from 1 – 5 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday July 15th at 10 am at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Mountain Lakes, NJ. Burial will immediately follow at Denville Cemetery. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Cathy`s memory to the Denville Beautification Committee by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Cathy here to continue to celebrate her life and let her light shine. Her family will cherish them always.
