Obituary of Oddfrid Lilly Tokle
“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.”
Oddfrid Tokle passed at her home on Monday, April 18, 2022. She shared 98 years of love and faith with her family. This love and faith will be our guiding light on the road ahead. Private arrangements were held under the direction of the Norman Dean Home for Services, Denville, NJ. A Memorial will be planned in the future.
Oddfrid was born in Flekkefjord, Norway and was one of five children to bless the family. As a child, she and her parents Otto & Lise Larsen and her siblings immigrated to the US, settling in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. As a young woman, she and her family were fortunate to summer in the Lake Telemark section of Rockaway Township. It was there, specifically in Lake Telemark, that Oddfrid met Arthur Tokle. As they say, the rest was history. They fell in love and married at the Norwegian Seamans Church in Bay Ridge on October 30, 1948. They eventually settled in Lake Telemark to start a family of their own.
Oddfrid was a devoted wife and loving mother. She worked hard along with Arthur to give their family a comfortable and loving home. She worked for many years as the head bookkeeper for the Dover Trust Co. She truly enjoyed this job. She was social and enjoyed chatting with the customers each day. She and Art enjoyed traveling together and were able to see the world together. They attended many Olympic games and receptions where she found herself in the presence of royalties. She enjoyed getting dressed up and was never without her lipstick!
She was deliberate and stubborn, caring and kind. She loved having her home filled with family and her proudest title was that of MorMor. She adored her six grandchildren and was blessed to adore fourteen great grandchildren! She loved her family and she loved her Lord.
Although we are broken hearted by her passing, we remain grateful that He shared her with us for 98 years and filled our hearts and our minds with much love and beautiful memories.
Predeceased by her husband Arthur Sr., she leaves joyful memories to her children Arthur Jr. (Suzanne) and Vivian Tokle Lynch; her adored grandchildren Erika McGavin (James), Amanda Weil (Edward) Sarah Tokle (Reese Riley), Jamie Schagelin (Seth), Emily Potter (Ted) and Michael Lynch (Sarah Greenwald); her cherished great grandchildren Noah, Patrick, Luke, Ryan, CC, Will, Aubrie, Stephen, Libby, Kelsey, Teddy, Ella, Grady and Brynn; and many more loving relatives, friends and neighbors.
