I left Chase Home Finance in 2005 and moved to Phoenix AZ (but still with Chase in Treasury Services). While in Woodcliff Lake, Jan and I joked and laughed alot and on lunch would sometimes go to nearby towns in Bergen County or Rockland County and poke around antique shops. We also frequented the antique mall near CHF offices. I remember her telling me all about going to the Antique Roadshow and how much fun it was. We were always talking about our gardens and our kitties. We emailed each other infrequently, but I sent her a birthday email on 10/24 and she responded with a brief note telling me about her lung cancer. I had absolutely no idea of her failing health. She was such a lovely, kind, sweet woman and I will miss her. My sincer condolences to her family and friends.

I was fortunate enough to meet Janice at her home about three months ago. Her garden was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. It didn't take me long to see that she was a strong couragous woman who loved her three children and faced her illness head-on. I saw a lot of her great positive attitude in her daughter Barb also, who took the time to talk to me several times about my illness. Her son Dietz, this goes without saying, is one of a kind. My daughter and I were going through some very trying times and Dietz took us in without question. And so, of course, did his mom. Dietz is the man he is today because of Janice. Dietz, Barb and Pete were moms best friends. They were blessed to have had her for 67 years. Rest in peace.

Dear Barbara,
Shella just told me today about your mom, I am so sorry, and please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I know these next days and weeks are so tough to get through, I am still struggling since my sister died in April. If there is ANYTHING I can do for you...even if it just to talk or cry together, please give me a call (973-560-110
3).
I know your mom fought a valiant fight, and now she in a better place, with lots of friends on the "other side". Elaine strongly believed in life after life, and was never afraid to die no matter what they made her go through.
I will keep you in my prayers, my friend.

To Barb, Dietz, Pete, Becka, and Shella: I am here for all of you, with deepest sympathy. Your mom was so strong and left a living legacy in all of you. Remember:
Ease your grief, she is not gone, but in your heart she lingers on. Her smile, her laugh, her special way, will comfort you from day to day. You'll feel her presence in the breeze, that dances gently through the trees. And its true fact you shall see, when you are in need of company. At any time you can recall the love you shared, you saved it all, and in time, more than anything, You'll find a place in remembering.

I worked at Chase with Jan. Although we didn't work in the same area, we became friends and I enjoyed our little chats. We would meet in our little kitchen or we'd stop by each other's desk and we discussed our retirement, our families and, of course, her gardening. I had cancer 13 years ago and Jan never failed to ask how I was doing. After retirement, we emailed each other. Jan was a lovely, gentle woman who never had a bad word to say about anyone. Everyone loved her and her quiet manner. I will miss our chats through email and I will keep her in my prayers.

The memory for us of Janice is that of a walking inspiration. We had met and converse with Janice in Allentown. Your mother met the challenges of her illness with love, cheer, joy, and altruism. We are going to miss her as surely as we are all better for knowing her. We believe our lives are richer because of the wonderful opportunity to cross paths with Janice.
We try so hard to convey real and emotional feelings about loss and yet, somehow, none of the words really do it. We look for the right words, in reality the emotions of friendship and love are the “right” words. We feel fortunate our path’s crossed with Janice. Our paths shall cross again in spirit. We hope the comfort for you is all the cherished memories interlaced with those sincere messages and heartfelt wishes. They may not make you actually feel better, but, knowing people care can be a help.
We are sorry for your loss, we wish you the best and we also hope you'll stay with us, because this unusual group of strangers on a wild cruise really does care about the rest of the crew(<grinning!>)
It is a good feeling to know that simply because you are you, some one wants to show you how much you mean to them. So while reading the words on this website candle, do not think of them as just words, please consider thinking of each word as a hug from our heart to your heart. Please consider each candle as the light of each wonderful day our paths shall meet again and exchange the emotional bonds of friendship, love, and joy.

Dietz, Pete and family,
I was greatly saddened to hear of the lost of your mom. I know that it is a very difficult thing to deal with the loss of a parent. As others have said, I was not fortunate enough to have known your mother well, but she seemed to be a wonderful woman from the brief time I spent around her. Just try to remember all of the wonderful memories that you have of your mom and she'll live in your hearts forever. My thoughts are with you, as are Judy's. Though out the years of being friends and co-workers with Dietz
we haven't had the pleasure of actually meeting Mrs. Wortmann, but that doesn't mean we didn't know this wonderful person. Every morning for years D and I would talk about everything, mostly our personal lives and he was always talking about his Mom and the type of person she was. We would discuss the vacations that he was planning, and that his Mom was finally retiring. We would laugh about how she handled her commuting stress... Plus other countless current moments D and I have shared. Yes, my wife and I have never met Mrs. Wortmann but our hearts will always remember the wonderful person she was and I'm honored to be a part of knowing the Wortmann family. Our deepest condolences go out to Barb and Pete and we'll always
