Will always have wonderful memories of Laurel! I recall great nights at Old Lane house when Al & friends would be playing music & Laurel would boogie in. She spent a few weekends over winter at our lake house, & I spent a few in Union so her dad Al could play with groups on New Years eve. It was a joy to see her learning so much as her life in homes seemed to always be better. She will always be remembered with love. (I think she could see deep in water & really knew where fish were hiding)

My deepest sympathy to the Schmidt family. I have been both blessed & fortunate to have known Laurel for over 20 years. She was an amazing woman whom we at Abilities cared for very much. She always remembered birthdays, & made cards for everyone making them feel very special. Laurel loved the holidays, especially Christmas. Each year at work Laurel would anxiously await for the staff to begin playing Holiday CDs. She absolutely LOVED them!!!!! She would sing & dance at her workstation, all while she continued to work! She will be missed by all of us at Abilities ---- she was truly special.

I will always remember Laurel fondly and have wonderful memories of many times spent with her throughout my years with the Arc. Laurel had an amazing smile, and was a lot of fun to be around. She had such a kind heart never forgetting any of the staff's birthdays, and always asking about our families and especially our pets! She was a blessing to me for many years and will be truly missed.

Myself, and the recreation department will truly miss Laurel, especially on the dance floor. I will always remember her as she was when she was on that floor, happy, smiling, and spreading joy. Rest in peace, Laurel.

I met Laurel over 22 years ago when she lived at the Blair House Apartments. My aunt, Jane Miller, lived with her. Jane and Laurel shared a special friendship. I was also very fortunate to work with Laurel as a DCA. She was so much fun to be around. Whenever I saw her lately, which was mostly at Abilities, she always had a great, huge smile for me and always wanted to know how my children were. She also always had kind words to say about Jane. I will miss her.

About 12 years ago, Laurel was delighted about the birth of my daughter, Saige. As an infant, I took her to visit the ladies at Hampton Terrace and one by one, they all took turns holding her. Laurel kept rubbing her finger on Saige's cheek, in which case Saige thought it was time to eat. Laurel loved her reaction and didn't want to give her up. I will continue to tell my daughter that story through adulthood. Rest in Peace, Laurel. You will be missed.

I remember first meeting Laurel when I first started working for the Arc in the mid 80's. We were at a picnic and Laurel asked me to dance. After we danced I winked at her and she giggled uncontrollably! From that day forward we would both wink when we saw each other, and she'd always giggle. She was a joy and a blessing to us all.
