Her family will cherish them forever.
Helen was born in 1923 to the late Halsey and Anna Chapman. After her schooling, she was a working woman for The Prudential. In 1944, she proudly joined the WAVES, the women's branch of the United States Naval Reserve during World War II. She was part of the greatest generation and was happy to serve! She worked as a pharmacist assistant achieving the rank of Pharmacist Mate 3rd Class. Upon her honorable discharge she met Walter Mutz at a dance. After a whirlwind romance, they married and started a family of their own. She raised five children with her nurturing and supportive qualities and always kept a beautiful home. She had many rewarding part time jobs through the years including switchboard operator at St. Clare’s Hospital, secretary at St. Mary’s School, and bookkeeper at Nucor Corporation. She donated much of her time and talent in service to others. She and her husband could be found delivering Meals on Wheels and wrapping Christmas gifts at the Lyons VA Hospital. She knew the importance of being a good neighbor and helping others. These are some of the strong values she loved to share. As the years passed, Helen and Walter were fortunate to travel often visiting their family. They were blessed with 15 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild! Willing and able to lend a helping hand to her children, she spent many hours watching her grandchildren and enjoyed the special times with them. Although we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and watching over her family with pride and joy.
She leaves beautiful memories to her husband Walter of 72 years; her children Barbara Batt (John), Susan Carrasco (the late Juan), Karen House (Robert), Judy Casse (Don), and Michael Mutz ( Heather Douglas); her beloved grandchildren Joe, Andy, Tim & Maggie Batt, Susie Delgado, Elisa Mateos, David Carrasco, Elizabeth Spaulding, Monica Hindmarsh, Don Casse Jr., Richard Casse, Michele Ippolito, Brian Casse, Michael Mutz Jr., Melissa Mutz and Ricky Zeiler; her great grandchildren Juliet, Bryce, Jaime, Diego, Mario, Juan, Leonardo, Brody, Owen, Charlotte, Matthew, Noah, Ethan, Danny, Owen, Nichele, Candice, Julia and Jillian; her great great granddaughter Olivia; her dear caregiver Lela; and many more neighbors, friends and relatives. Her brothers Raymond and Halsey passed previously.
