Obituary of Edward J. Singley

Edward Joseph Singley 99, of Rockaway, NJ (formally of Ridgefield Park, Crystal River Fl. and Little Ferry) passed away on Monday September 23, 2019 at St. Claire’s Hospital.

Ed was born on January 15, 1920 in Jersey City, NJ. He was the son of William and Elizabeth and brother to William Jr.

Edward proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he reached the rank of Sergeant.  It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Mary Josephine “Josie” (nee Richardson).  They married in a small ceremony in England on May 10, 1945.  For 48 years, they stood be each other’s side and raised 6 children together. Later in life, they bought a Winnebago and joined the Alpha Roamer Camping Club where they made lifelong friends and shared many adventures together.  Ed worked for 37 years as a supervisor for NJ Bell before retiring in 1981. Edward was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Ridgefield Park Knights of Columbus Council 2229.

Ed was an gifted handyman, self-taught painter/sketcher/photographer, organ and guitar player and thoroughly enjoyed singing, right up to the end. Ed never lost his desire to learn and spent many hours on his computer doing “research”. This past June, at the age of 99, he sang in the Fox Hills Talent Show.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Josephine (Richardson) in 1993.  He was also predeceased by his brother William E. Singley and by his daughter in law Kathleen Singley.

Edward is survived by his loving children Robert J. and his wife Terry Singley of Rockaway Twp., NJ, Edward J. and his wife Nan Singley of Port Charlotte, FL, Patricia Ann and her husband Tim Connors of Roseville, CA, Brian J. and his fiancé Kim Fellini of West Milford, NJ, William J. and his wife Barbara of Orlando, FL, and Kelly and her husband Gerard Schreck of Denville, NJ.  He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren Robert J. and his wife Amy, Patricia Halter and her husband Carl, Samantha Howard, Jason and his wife Heather, Julya Reynolds and her husband Doug, Hannah Singley, Timothy Connors, Brian Jr. and his wife Jackie, Steven and his wife Katie, Sean Singley, Ryan Singley, Shannon Singley and Adam and Mary Schreck.  Also surviving are his 16 great grandchildren Robert, Eli, Kaitlyn, Carl Joseph, Sara, Connor, Molly, Isabella Rose, Trinity, Kaiya, Lyla, Kelton, Brodie, Hunter, Skylar and Bradley.

Visitation will be held on Monday September 30, 2019, from 2:00PM – 4:00PM and 7:00PM – 9:00PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834 www.normandean.com.  Funeral services will begin at 9:00AM on Tuesday October 1, 2019, at the funeral home and then going to St. Mary’s Church in Denville for a 10:00AM Liturgy of Christian Mass.  Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
