Obituary of Kenneth Allen Foster, Sr.

Kenneth Allen Foster Sr. died peacefully on September 16, 2019, at the age of 84. Ken was ‘Dad’ to seven children, ‘Poppy’ to 22 grandchildren and ‘Big Poppy’ to 20 great grandchildren.  Ken is survived by his beloved partner Fran Church, his daughter Kathy, his son Ken Jr and wife Melodi (Molloy), his daughter Jeanne, his son Mark and wife Teresa (McMahon), his daughter Mary Beth and husband Paul (Groves), his daughter Christine and husband Dave (Prescott), and daughter-in-law, Amy Foster.  Ken is preceded in death by his son, Kevin Daly Foster, and his brothers, Lawrence Foster and Donald Foster.

Ken was born on February 4, 1935 in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Lawrence, Sr. and Lillian (Tyrrell) Foster. He married Doris (Daly) and they raised an incredible family together in Denville, New Jersey, for over 37 years.  Ken and Doris remained the closest companions to this day. Ken began work as a sales associate for New Jersey Bell and retired as a senior executive with AT&T. Ken loved his work at AT&T and continued those relationships with many former colleagues throughout his life.

Ken was a generous individual who fiercely loved and was so devoted to his family and friends. He was an active member of the Denville community and dedicated enormous time and effort to community and philanthropic concerns including the St. Clare’s Hospital Harvest Festival, the Dope Open, and Harlem Boys and Girls Club, just to name a few.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 28th, at 10:00 at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Avenue, Denville, New Jersey. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ken’s life. Burial services will be private.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Boys and Girls Club of Harlem at www.bgcharlem.org in dad’s memory, or any other charity that supports the well-being of children.
