***DUE TO THE INCLEMENT WEATHER TODAY, FRIENDS AND RELATIVES ARE WELCOME TO JOIN THE SVENTY FAMILY AT 3PM FOR ANDREW'S SERVICES***
**PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY**
Andrew J. Sventy, of Kinnelon, formerly of Montville, was reunited with his sweetheart on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. He was 88 years young. He married his soulmate, Margaret Ann Westervelt on September 28, 1952. She predeceased him in 2005. Together they had three beautiful children that they raised in Denville.
Born in Passaic, Andy was raised in Clifton to the late Andrew and Mary Sventy. He graduated from Bergen Catholic High School and received his Master’s Degree in Education from Rutgers University. Because of his love for people and conversing, and an innate curiosity about how things worked, he found his niche working for Avon in purchasing. He had a very successful 40 year career with Avon, traveling all over the globe. At the end of his tenure with Avon, he was appointed as the Director of the Far East Buying Office in Hong Kong, where he and Margaret resided for 10 years. In 1992, he retired as Vice President of Purchasing – and continued as a general consultant on Asian product sourcing for assorted companies until 2011.
A devout Catholic, Andy always made sure to attend Sunday Mass, no matter where he was living. He had many hobbies including golfing, fishing, politics, current events, storytelling, and collecting antiques with his wife. Andy was a very strong and independent man, accomplishing indoor and outdoor household chores well into his 80’s. Andy also spent many joyful hours with his long time companion of 11 years Joan Hadland, traveling, exploring, singing and just enjoying each other’s company in the Autumn of their lives. Above anything else, his family was his first priority. He loved spending time with them; especially his grandchildren. He was a one of a kind father who will always be treasured and remembered in our hearts.
Left to continue his legacy are his caring children, Thomas Sventy and his partner Keith Wambold of Pipersville, PA, James Sventy and his partner Wendy Curtis of Hazlet Twp., NJ, and John Sventy and his wife Carol of Kinnelon, NJ; his cherished grandchildren, Michelle Galesi, Rebecca Giordano and her husband Anthony, and Benjamin Sventy; his adored great-grandson, Lucas Giordano; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Memorial Visitation will take place on Wednesday, February 20th from 4 - 8 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services. Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, February 21st at 11 at the Funeral Home. Memorial Donations are being accepted by way of www.inmemof.org to Alzheimer's Association or American Heart Association. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share a special memory of Andy with his family.
