Sometimes in life you meet a man and have no idea how profoundly he will affect your life. Keith was one of these very rare men. He selflessly taught the D.A.R.E program (for drug abuse prevention) for many years to the Denville school kids, which included our two children. In fact, he and his wonderful wife Sue were always volunteering to help out in some way at the kids' schools. Through the Boy Scouts, he became a mentor to our son, Eric. He was one of the boy scout leaders who helped and encouraged him, along with countless other boys to complete their training to become Eagle scouts. When our son got involved with scouting it opened up a whole new world of friends. Keith got us involved with the scouts to help save costs on apparel items he was purchasing. We became very friendly and consequently started the "Once-in-awhile-dinner-club." This consisted of us, Sue, Keith and a few other scouting parents. Michael spoke on the phone, emailed and texted with Keith on a regular basis. We went on scouting trips and broke bread together for many years. Keith was a wonderful and generous man to his family, friends and community and will be sorely missed.

Dear Clifford Family,
Keith was one of the first people I met when we moved to Denville in 1973. We struck up a friendship that lasted through high school. We shared a homeroom for two years and ate lunch together, with other friends, daily. He was funny, witty, kind, and never at a loss for a comforting word. Though we haven't been in touch since graduation, I thought of him often over the ensuing years and wondered how his life had turned out. Sounds as if it turned out great. My prayers and condolences go out to your family at Keiths loss. I know he will be greatly missed.

Keith,
We have known each other since kindergarten. We grew up together and have been friends for our lifetimes. We joined the scout committee when our sons joined scouts. When they grew out we stayed in the 'Old Goat Crew'. Your friendship has meant a lot to me. Maybe you can find a site to camp until we join you.
To Keith's family,
We are all going to miss him but none more than you. We are sorry for your loss.

Keith and I grew up together in the Denville Schools. Recently we re-established our friendship on the occasion of our 50th class reunion which Keith was unable to attend because of his illness. We began an email correspondence through which I learned about Keith’s life since high school. He shared stories of his children and his family, all whom he deeply loved. He struck me as a happy and very grounded man. I will miss his wisdom, wit and humor very much. Keith was such a nice man who I was proud to call my friend. I send my condolences to Susan and his children.

My sincerest condolences. Keith was the reason I chose to be a police officer. He taught me how to write a resume, dress for an interview and helped me get my feet wet as a dispatcher for the Denville Police Department. I will never forget Keith.

Just in the short time (almost 3 years) that we were blessed to know Keith, we grew to love him so much! He was such a sweet, friendly, kind and loving neighbor. He made us smile all the time and we loved seeing him outside. My kids played outside and he was out all the time while we were, telling us a story or talking about how much he loved seeing the kids play. He was the first neighbor to come over and say hello when we moved in and made us feel so welcome! He even went out to buy us eggs and milk! He introduced us to the cub scout information around here and always gave us tidbits of stuff we should know about around denville. We will miss him dearly!
Love,
Adrienne, Luke, Zack, Ethan and Casey

My deepest condolences to the Clifford family. I have fond memories of Keith and I at Main Street School. I remember standing by the traffic light. Before crossing, Keith helped me learn how to tie my shoe laces. Although we were in elementary school, I always looked up to Keith for being smart. I had a secret crush on him, and I thought he was so cute. Hail to the wonderful life Keith has lead and all his fine accomplishment . He will be deeply missed. aDnhG

I was so glad to see Keith this past Fall. He sent me an e-mail describing the ALS he was battling with. When I was back east, I asked to come over to see him. I am so glad we caught up. I got the greatest kick out of his sense of humor - always kind of dry and a tad shocking. May peace be with you, Keith and your wonderful family.

I was a classmate of Keith's all through public school in Denville. I know he would have attended the 50th Morris Knolls Reunion this last October, but when we asked into why he hadn't come, news of his health situation reached most of us us several weeks afterwards. Moved and saddened, we all shared memories of growing up with Keith, and a number of us reconnected with him in recent months. My condolences to your loss, family and friends.

It seems I've known you forever - as a classmate of my sister throughout grade school and in the first class to have attended all four years at MK - to your years as a police officer and DARE officer at Denville schools - to a father who loved his girls and new family. You were one of a kind.

Keith,
Although 50 years apart, our recent reacquaintance instantly melted away the decades. And once again I briefly had the privilege of conversing with the genial, straight talking, standup guy I had known from so long ago. Rest easy.
