I am so sorry to hear of Stephen’s passing. I remember he was a polite and kind boy with nice memories of him over at our house playing. I saw and spoke with Stephen at a music venue of Derek’s and Alex’s a few years back and he had grown into a kind young man. My heart and strength go out to all of you.

Bruce, Vicki, Kristen and family. We are so very sorry to hear the sad news about Stephen. We remember him as a little boy and the time we visited you when the kids all put black olives on all their fingers!!. Happy memories! Stephen Thomas Kingdon,
i've known you for half of my life. like most of my friends, we met through music. we loved all of the same fucked up spazzy stuff like the locust, black eyes, an albatross. our hometown heroes in khantra. so many bands. from 02 to 04 you probably spent a full year with me in my dad's beat up dodge shadow that I took over- driving to practically every venue in new jersey. usually with some combination of evan, andy, alex, rob, feldy, ian, stef, my brother bilbo. we would lie to your mom about where the shows were and how late they would go. we saw so many shows together. we saw my all time favorite show together. q and not u and black eyes at monmouth university. your cool older girlfriend got on stage and danced with q and not u during their last song, which was them doing an improvisation / riffing on the black eyes song letters to raoul peck. "it feels like you're stuck with your head in a tire, burning for want of a real fire". one time at a folly show way out in the woods at some firehouse you said cops were searching my car in the parking lot, and you were pretty sure you left weed in there. I just about had a heart attack before i got out to my car and realized you were pranking me. a bunch of bro hardcore guys were hate moshing so hard the show got shut down like one song into folly's set. one time we got pulled over by the cops and they pulled us all out of the car and you thought it was hilarious that a goody goody mormon boy was getting into so much trouble. one time we broke into my church and messed around with the PA and thought it would be a great place to throw a secret show sometime. i wasn't a performer yet, and i made you and your girlfriend stand in the other room while i screamed the black eyes song pack of wolves. i still perform that one sometimes. one time, just the two of us, we drove up to the penny bridge on clinton road. when you throw a penny over the bridge, a ghost child is supposed to toss it back up in the air. it didn't work that time. we kept driving up clinton road. it went on forever. we passed a sign that said "now entering orange county". there is no orange county new jersey. we had crossed into new york accidentally. we got sushi at some place in warwick. we did things like this a million times. we "borrowed" my dad's record player, and i'm almost positive he didn't get it back. you were there when we lost reggie. we saw khantra every chance we got. we would scream our lungs out. "we are weaker than the shelves that hold our pride". you were there the january before last when khantra did that reunion show. i came out all the way from utah for it. that was the last time i saw you. life was not good to you. and i'm so sorry that i couldn't do more. you are a brother to me. i love you. we all love you, and we are all going to miss you so much we can hardly describe it. i hope you found your peace.
