Obituary of Emma Mari Osvold

Emma Mari Osvold passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Boonton Care Center. She was 90 years young.

 

Born and raised in Ålsund, Norway to the late Alfred and Borghild Ødegaard, she was one of eight children. She came to the United States in her early 20’s and settled in the Lake Telemark Section of Rockaway Township. There she became a member of Bondeungdomslaget (BUL) Lodge, and met the love of her life, Edgar Osvold. Together they married and relocated to Brooklyn for a short time before starting a family and returning to Lake Telemark. In 1963, she proudly became an American citizen. Emma was a member of the Sons of Norway, where she was on the bowling team. She also enjoying cross country skiing. She was a devout Lutheran and a very active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockaway for many years. An amazing baker, Emma was famous for making kransekake cake for all of her families events from birthdays to weddings and anything in between. Emma was an amazing, caring, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will forever be treasured in our hearts.

 

Predeceased by her beloved husband of 40 years, Edgar in 1992 and her siblings, Arne Ødegaard, Lillian Henningsen, and Bjørg Larsen, her legacy of unconditional love will continue to live on in the hearts of her adored children, Steve E. Osvold and his wife Anna Marie of Lake Telemark and Gail-Mari Sossong and her husband Duane of Rockaway Township; her cherished grandchildren, Nicole Osvold, Danielle Bassetti and her husband Paul Bassetti, Tyler Sossong and his wife Laura Flowers, Hilary Sossong, and Steven Osvold; her treasured great-granddaughter, Jane Everly Sossong; her loving siblings, Helge Ødegaard, Alfred Ødegaard, Sigrid Walderhaug, and Ottar Ødegaard; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

 

Public Visitation will take place on Sunday, October 28th from 6 – 8 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, October 29th at 10 am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Green Pond Rd, Rockaway, NJ 07866. Burial will follow at Marcella Union Cemetery, Rockaway. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Emma’s memory by way of https://inmemof.org/emma-mari-osvold to the American Cancer Society or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Please leave a condolence and special memory for her family.
