James Bilotta, Longtime Bayonne Resident

“Well done, good and faithful servant…”

James Bilotta, passed peacefully on Saturday, September 15, 2018.  He shared 93 years of love and pride with all he knew.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 19th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Ave., Denville.  Interment with military honors to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.  Friends and relatives may visit on Tuesday, September 18th from 4-7 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ 07834.  Donations in his name may be made to the good work of Catholic Relief Services by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org

Born Vincenzo Bilotta in San Vito Sullo Ionio, Italy, “James” was one of six children. At the young age of 13 he immigrated to the US.   At the age of 18, he was drafted into the US Army where he proudly served this country during WWII.  He was the recipient of two purple hearts and a bronze star.  He served with honor and was part of the greatest generation, never to be forgotten.  Upon his return to the states, he met Jean Schiavello and the couple married and settled in Bayonne, her home town. They were married for over 70 years and were the purest example of love, admiration and respect between two partners.  James was so very proud of his family.  In his own way, he took care of every member.  He had a special relationship with each grandchild and was truly the World’s Best Grandpa.  He was over the moon when he started welcoming his great grandchildren eight years ago.  He was simple and caring, loving and true.

He drove the Broadway Bus #29 for the family business for many years. He also worked for the Bayonne BOE driving their school buses.  He enjoyed this job and was able to provide a good life for his family.  This family patriarch has given us much to celebrate and be grateful for.  We take comfort in knowing he is at peace and with his dear Gigi again.

Predeceased by his wife Jean of 70 years and his five siblings Theresa Dias, Joseph, William "Vito", Nicholas and Francesco "Chico"; he leaves beautiful memories to his devoted children Joseph (Helene Johann), James (Diane) and Jean Capone (Gary); grandchildren James Bilotta (Stacey), Christina Betts (Bryan), Catherine Phillips (Ernie), James Bilotta, Linda Peterson (Mark), Gary Capone Jr., great grands Jenna, Joey, Brianna, Ashley, Carly Jean and Emily; and many more loving relatives and friends.
