Obituary of William Bateman
William Dominick Bateman, Jr., Denville
William D. Bateman, Jr., 92, passed away on August 2, 2018 at Boonton Care Center.
Born June 12, 1926 in Charleston, S.C., Bill was the sixth child and only son of William D. and Grace (Hale) Bateman, Sr. He joined the Navy at the age of 16 serving four years in WWII and then was recalled to serve two more years during the Korean conflict. Bill worked for many years in the manufacturing field. When finally retiring in 1991 from Lydo Precision he went on to his most rewarding position as a volunteer at Denville’s St. Clare’s Hospital until failing health forced him to leave.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his son William David Bateman, his stepdaughter Sophie Butts Duke, his sisters Lily Bierfisher, Grace Jones, Evelyn Reynolds, Ruth Jones, and Wylie Beckroge and his sister in law Sheila Gliha.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years Blanche (Bunny), daughter Linda (Matt) Mattero, stepson Donald Butts Jr., stepdaughter Kerensa Leigh (Rick) Croy; his grandchildren Heather and Justin Croy and brothers in law Edward and John Gliha.
Arrangements under the direction of the Norman Dean Home For Services. Private interment will take place in Bainbridge, NY.
