Obituary of Henrick H. Thorsen
Henrick “Hank” H. Thorsen, long-time resident of Rockaway Township, passed away suddenly on July 4, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was 76 years young.
Hank was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 17, 1941 to Henrik and Sigrid Thorsen. They moved to the Lake Telemark section of Rockaway Township in 1950.
He was a member of Morris Hill’s first ice hockey team, playing in the first game for Morris Hills as a goal tender on December 15, 1958. Throughout his life he enjoyed water and snow skiing, boating, fishing and tinkering around his yard and pool. His heritage would bring him to Mandal, Norway where he would spend summers working and playing on his uncle’s farm.
Hank was a NJ State Trooper for 25 years and proudly served in the United States Army, stationed at West Point. He was a skilled craftsman and regularly used his talents while assisting friends and family. He was a very good story teller, known for his various one liners; affectionately known as “Pop Pop-isms”.
Hank is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Randi Thorsen; his three loving daughters, Ingrid O’Connor (Timothy), Sonja Baker and Vivien Thorsen; his cherished 4 grandchildren, Nicole, Laura Lee, David & Siri; and 1 treasured great-grand child, Elam.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Monday, July 9th from 7 – 9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ. Memorial Donations are being accepted to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org. Please leave a condolence and special memory for his family.
