Obituary of Arthur J. Brown

     "You can always tell where a beautiful soul has been by the tears and the smiles left behind."

Arthur J. Brown passed peacefully on Friday, May 18, 2018.  He shared 79 years of love and faith with his family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 23 at 10 am at St. Ann’s Parish, 781 Smith Rd., Parsippany.  Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, May 22^nd from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville.  Donations in his memory may be made to the good work of St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital or to the NJ Sharing Network by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org 

Arthur was born in Jersey City to the late Arthur and Rose Brown. He attended St. Peter’s Prep, graduating in 1957. It was an experience he cherished.    As a young man, he met Diane Karst in the local sweet shop.  Years later, they married on June 22, 1963. The couple settled in Parsippany where they made their home and raised their family.  They have resided there for over 45 years.  He went on to earn his MBA at Columbia University.  Arthur retired as Senior Vice President from Bank of America after a successful 40 + year career in banking.  Art was a longtime parishioner of St. Ann’s, was a man of deep faith and donated much of his time to the church.  He was a gentle and caring soul, always concerned about everyone else.  He was smart as a whip and literally knew something, rather “much” about everything.  He was an excellent teacher, patient and kind.  He was thoughtful and considerate, a true gentleman. He enjoyed reading and walking, rooting on his beloved NY Giants & Boston Red Sox, and was a proud Matt Talbot man.  Above everything in this world, Arthur’s family meant the most to him.  He was so proud of his children and he adored his loving wife.  His most treasured titles were of course those of “Gramps” and “Pa”.  He relished in every moment he spent doting over his five grandchildren.  The sun rose and set on his crew.  Although we are saddened deeply by his parting, we take comfort in knowing we are better people because of him.  He has left a legacy of love, kindness and gratitude to be proud of.

He leaves a lifetime of memories to his wife Diane of 55 years; his children Linda Gearty (Tim), AJ Brown (Jennifer Schlegel) and Laura Borth (Jim); his adored grandchildren Kristi, Julie and Timmy Gearty and Penelope Olive and James IV Borth; his dear sister Rosemary Sullivan; his nieces Kerri Werrlein, Erin Kimak, Megan Szaloczy and Christine Brown; nephews Brian Sullivan and Charles Brown and many more dear friends and neighbors.  His brother Charles Brown passed previously.
