Obituary of David A. Kondik

David A. Kondik, Lake Hopatcong

David Allen Kondik, passed away on April 26, 2018.  He shared 65 years of hard work and quality time with his family and friends.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 10am at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Ave., Denville.  Interment to follow at the Rockaway Presbyterian Cemetery.  Friends and relatives may visit on Tuesday, May 1^st from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville.  Donations in his memory may be made to the good work of the St. Jude Childrens’ Research Hospital by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org 

David was born in 1953 to the late Victor and Helen Kondik; the same year the NY Yankees’ Yogi Berra was named the American League MVP. David was raised in Union City and after his schooling married his longtime sweetheart Joyce (nee Wiedemann) on July 3, 1976.  A few years later they started a family and settled in Secaucus to raise their three sons.  As one of the biggest Yankee fans, Dave tried relentlessly to instill the values of pinstripes and the Bronx to his boys; but was “Met” with resistance. Regardless, he stayed true through the years.

Dave was an avid fisherman and loved throwing a line in.  He was fortunate to move to Lake Hopatcong some years back to be close to the water. These times were peaceful and will be cherished for years to come. When at home, Dave was certain to have one of his loyal pups by his side.  He was an animal lover and the dogs were spoiled! He enjoyed the NJ Lottery and was a familiar face at the local market to buy his tickets and enjoy some conversation.  When the kids were young, he loved to spend time in Wildwood in the summer and be a part of all of their sporting events. He was stubborn, deliberate and an extreme workaholic. He was a proud Husband and Dad and most recently was crowned the title of Grandpa.  He provided a good life for his family and always wanted to be sure they were ok and wanted for nothing.  Although his passing has broken our hearts, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace and is resting on the banks of Heaven’s fishing hole.

He leaves a lifetime of happy memories to his wife Joyce of 41 years; his sons David (Stephanie), Christopher (Casey) and Joshua; his adored granddaughter Shea; his pups Peter, Rudy and Sandy; his sisters Victoria Supel, Patricia Santiago, Katherine Heher-Timpone and Helen Marie Breen; brother Kenneth Haher; and many dear friends, coworkers and acquaintances.
