With the passing of Stephen D. Halliburton on February 17, 12 days before his 66th birthday, Morris County lost one of its most brilliant entrepreneurs as well as a beloved husband, father, and friend.
A life-long resident of Denville, Steve attended the Union Hill School, Main Street School and Morris Hills and Morris Knolls High Schools and achieved an enviable academic record. Upon receiving a B.A. and two Masters from Lehigh University, he and embarked on his business career in information technology. As an employee of Haverly Systems, he quickly rose to the position of vice-president. He subsequently joined the Mt. Lakes firm Nordata, where he served as vice-president for several years before launching his own company, Halliburton Systems, Inc.
As president of HSI, Steve was an expert in the design and implementation of computer systems, hardware and software, data managers and operating systems. Many firms have been Steve's loyal clients for decades; one had been with him from the firm's inception in 1982.
In addition to managing his company, Steve taught for several years at the Morris Hills Regional District Adult High School as well as County College of Morris, where he mentored hundreds of students and made mathematics comprehensible and even enjoyable. Steve also loved ham radio and had his license since he was 11 years old. He also had been active in Boy Scouts with troop 99 as a child and was also a troop leader when his son, Craig, was a member. Steve's other passions included reading, golf, and, of course, the New York Mets.
His friends will forever remember Steve as having a personality with a unique blend of intelligence, wit and humor.
He leaves his beloved wife Wendy, son Craig, daughter-in-law Mary (and devoted Pet, Ziva)
