Obituary of Samuel W. Chiappa

Samuel “Sam” W. Chiappa passed away peacefully on October 26, 2017 at St. Clare’s in Dover.

Sam was born in Dover, raised mainly in the Dover/Rockaway area, and has lived in Denville for the past 39 years. He graduated from Dover High School and was a 55 year member of Plumbers Local 523/14. He loved baseball and played semi-pro baseball for over 20 years. His interest in baseball stayed with him for many years as he coached youth baseball teams and was manager of the Dover Pioneer Club Baseball Team. He is an eight year Navy Korean War Veteran having spent two years in Special Services playing baseball and two years aboard ship in the Pacific Theater and four years of inactive duty. He has enjoyed many ship reunions in various parts of the country meeting with fellow US Regulus AF-57 shipmates. Sam was Past President of the Dover Democratic Club, Past Dover Democratic Municipal Chairman, Life member of Dover Post 27 American Legion and member of Dover Social Club. He was Past President of the Hub Lakes League and also served on various committees for that organization. He was a past president of Rock Ridge Community Club and served on that executive board for over 25 years. He was also a member of the Kemah Lake Property Owners Association. He traveled extensively with his wife Lois and loved his winters in Florida where he could connect with his Southern relatives and friends. He was a compassionate person who cherished his family, enjoyed his numerous friends and was always there for them.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 39 years Lois, his sons Samuel (Johanna), Michael (Lorraine) and Christopher, his step-children William MacClean (Adel), Donna MacClean (Gary), numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, his sisters Norma Ryan and Clara McClain (George) and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters Rosalie Czarnecki and Dolores Shiver.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday, Oct. 30th from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ 07834. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31st at 9:30 am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Frankford Plains Cemetery, Frankford Twp. Memorial Donations are being accepted to American Legion Post 27 by way of www.inmemoryof-memorial.org. Please leave a condolence and special memory for his family.
