I met Michael while dating his sister in 1979. I recall that his sisters were very close to him and that Michael enjoyed the outdoors and working on his truck. It was on a visit to the family cabin in Pennsylvania that I had the opportunity to share an experience with Michael that I still treasure. It was late afternoon and we took his canoe out on the lake. We paddled out to the middle as the setting sun slowly tinged the pale horizon with darkening shades of orange and red. As we drifted on the still water, we spoke little perhaps because we sensed that words would only distract us from the natural beauty surrounding us and the serenity we both felt within. I never forgot that experience and I occasionally let my mind drift back there and relive that almost mystical moment with a man whom I did not know well, but whose invitation to join him on the lake even now fills me with gratitude. Rest in peace, Michael. Kurt Picillo
