Today, June 20,2016, after not being able to contact ny friend Floyd for some time by phone, email or text, I traveled from Basking Ridge to his last known address in Wayne to pay him a surprise visit as we had been trying to get together for lunch for some time. He was not at home. I left a note for him to call me in his mailbox. The current resident of the New Street home, where Floyd and I had previously enjoyed good talk and great fellowship, called me and advised that Floyd no longer lived there. I searched the Internet to see if I could locate him, and I then found his obituary. I then realized that my friend, with whom I had spent countless hours with, while training him to become a Humane Law Enforcement Officer with the New Jersey State SPCA Humane Police, and at his home, was gone. I am indeed blessed and honored to have walked this earth and this life with my Felkiw officer, colleague and friend Floyd. He was the very best of the very best. He was caring, honest, diligent and he had a special and unlimited degree and level of compassion for his fellow man and for animals. What a true friend I had in Floyd and it was wonderful to know that he considered me and chose me as his friend for the times we patrolled the mean streets and together made a difference and the visits and the phone calls.. He was witty and reserved at the same time, but he was truly a gentle giant with his all to give. I will miss Floyd, but I will highly regard the memories of the professional law enforcement services we performed and the friendship we enjoyed in making a difference one person and one animal at a time. Rest In Peace My Friend and my Brother Floyd. God saw fit to call you to a better place as He knew that you were the perfect addition to the population of Heaven. You no longer have an address in Wayne. You current address is on a street where we all hope to call home. Thank you for your friendship and your fellowship. To the family, let not your hearts be troubled. Floyd had somewhere to go and now walks proudly with and in Christ. May God bless everyone who walked the pathways of this life with Floyd. You are all blessed.

Wishes of peace. Floyd worked on and off with me at RPD. We both dispatched and at the change of shift we inevitably chatted- mostly about life. He teased and tormented me as I did to him in return. When he took a trip to Disney World teasingly I asked him to bring me back a gift- I was totally taken by surprise he brought me a Mickey mouse beanie with my name on it. Another time he was going to a beach for a week and I said again teasingly 'bring me back some seashells'. Well, he did and he made sure to let me know how devoid the beach was of shells and he had to hunt for them. Typical Floyd- gruff and crusty on the outside and a total softie on the inside.
Floyd was very proud of his sons and held Carrie with great respect.

William, I always remember you and Floyd playing with me down the back. Our moms would sit and talk. Thankful, we had good guidance in our lives. I last saw Floyd at the 2002 Amsterdam reunion. He called out Ralph, I turned and I laughed, I asked how he knew it was me. He said he never forgets a face. I had not seen him since we graduated Saint Paul's. In this, I know there are no words to fill this void in your heart, but there is prayer and love, both of which I can give. With the hope also of one day seeing Floyd again, for all eternity.

I was terribly sorry to hear of Floyd's passing . I am the youngest brother of George Fernandez and I remember how close they were back when we were all kids. Floyd was a great man and it was fantastic to see at their friendship lasted over the years. On behalf of the Fernandez family, our sincerest thoughts and prayers to his Family and loved ones.
