I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on the tombstone from beginning ... to end. He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the time that they spent alive on Earth.
And now only those who Loved them know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own, the cars...the house...the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So, think about this long and hard. Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left that can still be rearranged. If we could just slowdown enough to consider what's true and real and always try to understand the way other people feel. And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile, remembering that this special dash might only last a little while. So when your eulogy is being read, with your life's actions to rehash...would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent YOUR dash?
The Dash Poem by Linda Ellis
" I'm sure Uncle Arne is very proud of the love, support and comfort from family and friends and wears an everlasting smile while embracing everyone. Certainly an amazing dash and man we all love and respect.

My family was saddened to learn of PopPop's death. He was an amazing man who lived a remarkable life. He was a wonderful grandfather, who always gave stern advice, loving hugs, and left a lasting impression on all of us. He is greatly loved and missed. "Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn." (Romans 12:15) We are with you in thought and wish you comfort and peace.
With heartfelt sympathy,
Ben, Kerri, Kelcey & Alicia Howley

It saddens me to think of all the time that has passed us by, always and forever in my thoughts, my condolences to family and friends.
Uncle Arne was always my go-to comfort and advice friend that I could always count on growing up. I'm sure our relationship has influenced my life and love for others. It 's hard to accept that the only man to ever hug me has moved on to comfort those passed through out the years.

My Uncle Arnie! what can I say, he was a man that was well respected by all and loved by all that knew him. He was tough on all of us as kids, yet had a soft side too. He had high moral standards, outstanding work ethics and strong family values which is why his children, Arnie, Deb, Judy, Chris and Eric and all his grand children grew up to be the outstanding adults that they are today. I know he was very proud of all of them. I personally have many wonderful memories from my childhood and teenage years of spending summers, holidays and vacations with him my Aunt Dolly and my cousins, at our country house or at his home in NJ in the summers swimming at the lake or in the winter ice skating on it. These are memories I will cherish the rest of my life. My heart is sad. My love & prayers go out to My Aunt Dolly my cousins all of my family there in NJ. I have a funny memory to share: At my brother's wedding in Florida I brought my boyfriend Charlie with me. This was the first time the family had met him, and here is my Uncle Arnie standing tall as an oak tree and Charlie engaged in conversation, I walk over and my uncle says " I was just telling him he better be good to you in that stern yet loving way , and Charlie says yes sir I will. We walk away and charlie said " Gee that was scary:" I was laughing because, Like I said he was loving but demanded respect and expected the same for his family. I loved him very much. RIP my favorite Uncle.....

There are not enough tear drops from the heavens that could express how deeply saddened we are by the loss of our dearly loved Uncle Arne. Strong, proud, honest & loving were just a few of this man's characteristics. A hard working, devoted husband and caring father are those things that will be deeply missed by all of his family. Aunt Dolly, Deb, Judy, Arne, Chris & Eric please accept our sincerest condolences to you and your families. May God bless you all, comfort you and give you peace.
