Obituary of Laszlo Gudor

Laszlo Gudor, 92, of Wharton, passed away peacefully at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover NJ with his family by his side on June 22, 2015. Born on March 23, 1923 in Hungary, he grew up in Kolozsvar and moved to Budapest in 1949. He was an engineering student at Budapest University of Technology until he was forced to flee Hungary after the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. He lived in several places but predominantly in Little Ferry, NJ and Chandler, AZ before settling in Wharton NJ in 2001.
Laszlo completed his BS in Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He embarked upon a 30 year career with the State of New Jersey DOT as a Civil Engineer and retired in 1990. Laszlo was a member of St. Stephen R. C. Magyar Church and the American-Hungarian Bartok Bela Men's Choir. He loved to travel; he spent his summers in Hungary, the fall in Aruba, and his winters in Florida.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Franciska , his brother Stephen Gudor, and adored great-granddaughter Kiera Levins, he is survived by his devoted children, Maria Gudor Bates (Richard) of Denville and Stephanie C. Gudor of Wharton; his cherished grandchildren, Leslie G. Bates (Craig Levins) of Canadensis PA, Richard B. Bates (Carolyn) of Rockaway, Maria F. Bates of Providence RI, and Andrew A. Bates of Denville; and his loving great-grandchildren, Rae Ann and Brielle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 9:00 a.m. at St. Stephen R. C. Magyar Church, 223 Third Street, Passaic, NJ 07055. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Park Cemetery, Hackensack. Visitation will be held at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, on Friday, June 26th from 2–4 & 7–9 pm.
