Obituary of Eleanor F. Herbert

Eleanor ("Kiki") Herbert, (nee Gillen), 76, of Rockaway, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2015.
Born in Jersey City, Eleanor formerly lived in Waldwick, where she raised her family with love and devotion. She was the loving wife of former Senator F.X. Herbert (Frank), mother of 2 sons; Patrick, and Timothy and his wife Ellen, and a daughter, Eileen Cawley and her husband Jerry. Mother-in-Law to Debra Herbert. Grandmother to; Caitlin, Frank, Carolyn, Bill, Emma, Aidan and Catherine. She was the oldest of six children and was predeceased by her sister Sharon Messemer. She is survived by her Aunt Eleanor Cox, beloved brothers and sisters, Terence Boyle, Brendan Boyle, Patricia Spencer, and Mary Jane Di Paolo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Jersey City Medical Center School of Nursing in 1959, where she worked in the emergency room for many years. She earned a B.A. from The State College of New Jersey, and when she and Frank moved to Bergen County, she worked as a Nursing Supervisor at Hackensack Hospital. She received her Master's Degree in Finance from Iona College in 1981 and received a Certification in Nursing Administration from Villanova University in 1984. She then went on to become Director of Nursing at Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in NYC, and worked there until she retired.
She loved her family and friends and always knew the presence of God and the blessings in her life. Her warm spirit, calming nature and laughter will be missed by many of her friends and family.
A Celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, May 30th at 10:30 am at Norman Dean Home for Services. Memorial Visitation will take place on Friday, May 29th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the PKD Foundation, 8330 Ward Parkway, Suite 510, Kansas City, MO 64114. Please leave a condolence in her memory.
