McBryan JR, 73, Rockaway, NJ passed away on May 31, 2012 after a brief illness. A Memorial service will be held at The United Methodist Church of Rockaway (1 Hoagland Ave, Rockaway, NJ) on Friday June 15, 2012 at 6pm. John was born June 25, 1938 in Phillipsburg, NJ to Gertrude (nee Fields) & John McBryan. He lived in Hawley, PA until 1965. After graduating from Hawley High School he joined the US Air Force, where he proudly served his country from 1959-1963. After leaving the Air Force he was employed by Curtis Wright where he met the love of his life, his wife of 47 years, Elinore (nee Paterson). He then worked for the US Postal Service for 25 years working his way from carrier to Assistant Post Master before retiring in 1993. During his time at the post office he was also the Treasurer/CEO of the Montclair Postal Employees Credit Union where he worked until his death. He enjoyed meeting new people and helping others. This led to his nickname “The Mayor” given to by his bowling teammates. There wasn’t anyone he couldn’t find something in common with or find a genuine interest in. His passion was bowling. He began bowling in his youth and bowled in 3 leagues until his death. He took great pride in the fact that he bowled 2 perfect 300 games, a feat that eludes many bowlers. He traveled across the country over the years to bowl in numerous tournaments. He was a member of St. Cecelia’s Church in Rockaway, NJ. He was predeceased by his mother, Gertrude, father, John, and brother, Richard. He is survived by his loving wife, Elinore, and two daughters, Lynn McCreary of Garland TX, and Kathy and Danny Bernstein of Mine Hill, NJ; four grandchildren, Kayla and Matthew McCreary & Kaitlin McBryan & Brittany Bernstein.
