I remember seeing Mr. Spino at St. Mary's for many years. He was a fixture there and a helper to all. May you rest in peace. I'm sure my Mom was there to greet you again.

Our dad “Tony” was a wonderful person. One of those strong but quiet kind of guys that just believed in hard work and loving his family.
He was a son of an immigrant from Italy. He was a football player at Morristown High School to some. He was the dad that watched as one of his sons Anthony became the team trainer the same high school. He was a Marine to some. He was a Yankee fan that took his children to games which is probably why his daughter Terry is such an avid fan of baseball today. He was a caddy to some for over 50 years at Springbrook and Rockaway River golf courses. He was a friend to some. He was the man that opened St. Mary’s church for over 37 years. He was a neighbor that you could always depend on for a smile and a helping hand. He was the man that was below that plume of snow spewing from the snow blower after every snow storm, not just at the church and school but every house on the block. He was the man to some that never saw him without his baseball cap. Only a few times come to mind, once at his son Rick’s wedding and recently in church. He was a man that loved animals…any animal…he fed and gave water to the birds everyday. Even when he was too sick to do it himself, he made sure someone else took care of them. He was the man many saw everyday walking his dogs around Gardner Field, where he had also been a dad watching his sons play ball there and then watching them become umpires and coaches there. He was the dad that took his daughter Patty to the play ground when she was too little to play with the older sister and brothers. He was the man that some saw pushing a baby stroller all the way from St. Mary’s to the farm at St. Claire’s so his grandson could sit on the tractor that was there. He was a man that loved his grandchildren, Amy, Kimberly, Nicholas, Christopher and Meghan. He was a man who loved to go to the pancake house for breakfast with his 3 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Derrick and Genevieve. He loved talking to anyone who would listen. He was very funny to some, and oh how we have laughed through the years with him. He was not a man without faults, we all have those, and now they seem so inconsequential. But to our family…He was a brother, an uncle, a husband, a father, a father-in-“love”, a grandfather and a great-grandfather in “love”. As each new baby that came into the family, he always wanted to be among the first to hold them! He was a man that called his wife “Girl” after 63 years of marriage. And she was there with him to give him love when he left this earth.
To reach "90" is a great accomplishment. but to reach it with the love of his fellow man...that is an accomplishment. Tony never met a stranger and if you came to his house you never left hungry. Just one of those unsung American heroes that believed loving thy neighbor was the only way to live! We will miss him dearly and we thank God now for the short time we had with him, and will keep him in our hearts forever.
Mike gave his dad a card once and it said…
”Dear DAD,
You have helped me navigate stormy waters.
You have kept me safe and afloat.
You have taught me to be the captain of my life…thank you from the bottom of my heart!”
Love from the bottom of “all” our hearts, Stephanie “Stevie” Spino

Tony was an amazing neighbor who would shovel, sweep, gather up garbage cans and help all who lived around him...even in his 80's. He had so many stories about his time serving our country and his community that he took such pride in sharing with us. This neighborhood will never be the same without him. Rest in peace Tony. You will be greatly missed. God bless the entire Spino family in this time of sorrow.

I have been friends with Mr. Spino for so many years. He was a sweet, friendly man. My children all loved him through their years at St. Mary's. I was lucky enuff to work next door to you and still have the opportunity to talk to him often over the past few years. It was only a few weeks ago that we had our chat about the weather and cleaning up for spring. He was sweeping my side walk. I am very sorry for your loss. I will miss Tony so much. Pam
