Obituary of Erwin Frank Conrad
Erwin Frank Conrad, US Army Veteran, lifelong ham radio buff, square dancer, and avid hiker, passed away at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, NJ on December 25, 2024, at the age of 95.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Erwin attended Woodrow Wilson High School and Cooper Union. Erwin proudly and honorably served his country in the US Army in Korea as a Sergeant before beginning his 33 year career as an engineer with Hewlett Packard in Rockaway, NJ. He was a ham radio operator and an avid hiker scaling peaks throughout the Catskills and the Northeast as a member of the Union County Hiking Club, Siera Club, and the Appalachian Mountain Club. He also loved to crisscross the US in his camping trailer and had a passion for woodworking which he shared with his son, Peter.
Erwin was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Eleanor and his daughter, Leslie Jean Picinich. Erwin is survived by his son, Peter M. Conrad and his wife, Gail D’Amico of Ortley Beach, NJ, and his daughter, Laura Jane Hartigan and her husband, Dennis of Naples, FL. He also leaves behind his 5 beloved grandchildren: Hailey Marie, Sawyer Thomas, and Elysha Rose Conrad, Liana Picinich, and Lacey Moraes and her husband, Lucas of North Carolina, and his son-in-law Nick Picinich.
Interment will be held at Ocean View Cemetery in Station Island, NY 10309 on January 3rd.
