Obituary of Carole Cenno

Please share a memory of Carole to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carole Cenno (Calabrese), 91, passed away at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville, NJ, after a short illness on December 9, 2024.  Always quick with a witty remark, a big smile and a warm hug, Carole will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.

Born and raised in Lodi, NJ to Carl and Ida (Giacin) Calabrese, she lived in Waldwick before moving to Denville 14 years ago. Before retiring, Carole owned The Animal Shelter in Lodi for many years, and was later employed as a secretary for the Dianem Trucking Company.

Carole was a beloved friend and family member. Her infectious laughter and kind heart touched everyone she met. She had a passion for traveling the world and visited many countries. She loved sewing, creating costumes for her grandchildren and sharing her woodworking skills with her grandson. She was always up for a good time, whether it was socializing with friends at the Denville Seniors or sharing her cherished Italian traditions like making pizza gainas and Easter bread with her niece. Despite her many hobbies, her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, attending their sporting events, playing games, and creating lasting memories.

Carole is survived by her loving daughters Brenda and Fred Houghton of Moorpark, CA and Donna and Michael Chegwidden of Denville, NJ; her grandchildren Lauren, Leigh-Anne, Frederick, Andrew and his wife Bridget, Brian, Kevin and Christopher, as well as her niece Sandy Salamak, great nephew Stephen and great niece Kelly and her son, Adrian.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Carol Grohsman in 1956, her son, Frankie Grohsman in 1966, her second husband Frederick Cenno, and her sisters Audrey Schurman and Marie Rigano, and brother Carl Calabrese.

Visitation will be held on Sunday December 15, 2024, from 12:00PM to 4:00PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue Denville, NJ 07834 www.normandean.com.   A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 16, at 10:00AM at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Avenue Denville, NJ, followed by interment services at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Saddle Brook, NJ.
