Obituary of Agostinho Rodrigues Lousada

Please share a memory of Agostinho to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Agostinho “Tino” Rodrigues Lousada passed away suddenly with his family by his side on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at Columbia University Medical Center in NY. He had shared 66 years of genuine love, contagious smiles, priceless wisdom, and extraordinary memories with family and friends.

Agostinho was born and raised in Ervedosa do Douro, Portugal by the late José Dos Santos and Virginia (Rodrigues) Lousada. He flourished growing up alongside his older brother and sisters, playing outdoors and learning all about their rich and deep history within their country, creating a great foundation for life. After graduating High School, he went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree. In 1981, Agostinho immigrated to the United States, settling into Bergen County, NJ. His career in the U.S. began at Aeronautical Instrument & Radio Company (AirCo) in Lodi. That is where he met his soulmate and best friend, Alma Maye Vajas. The happy couple were married on July 12, 1986 and they traveled on this rollercoaster called life, hand in hand. Agostinho and Alma began a family of their own in Lodi and then moved to Midland Park before settling into their forever home in Saddle Brook. He had been employed as a Prudential Insurance as a Salesman, later a cook and then opened up his own construction business with family. He owned and operated Madison Construction out of Midland Park for many years. Working independently gave him the unique opportunity to be at home with the children Daniel and Sabrina, turning a house into a home and children into young adults.  His children will be forever grateful for the memories he created being a “SuperDad”. As the world changed and the kids grew, Agostinho found his calling as a Driver. He worked for Public Partnership and created lasting friendships and touched, yet again so many lives.

Agostinho was a very handsome man, dedicated to his family; his loved ones were his entire world and he relished it when spending quality time, creating lasting memories. He thrived being a host with his incredible wife, Alma. Anyone was welcome at his house, at any time. The only thing he enjoyed more than cooking and grilling was seeing the joy on everyone’s face while they were eating. Agostinho was also very happy when listening to music, watching Portugal play fútbol (aka soccer), Formula One racing and learning as much as he could about life and the universe. The sun rose and set on his children and his adorable grandson Asher, who could do no wrong. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, family man and friend to many. He could always make you laugh, was always there when you needed him, and would do absolutely anything for you without question. His love of life and people was evident to all who met him. He was funny and charming, confident while humble, compassionate and generous, and the epitome of a man’s man.

He was a hard worker, giving himself to whatever it was he was doing with tenacity and dedication. Never asking what he would get back, only how he could help. He was a man few and far between and even though he wouldn’t want it, so worthy of reward and recognition. Agostinho was a beautiful soul inside and out. Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with his loving parents, Alma’s parents whom he loved and cared for, John and Alma Vajas, and his great-nephew, Michael John "MJ" McFalls.

His legacy will live on in the hearts of his adored family, his beloved wife of nearly 38 years, Alma Maye; his cherished children, Daniel Joseph and Sabrina Maye Lousada; his treasured grandson, Asher Finn; his caring siblings, Candida (the late Antonio), Helena (Antonio), Celeste (Antonio), and Mario (Olga); his loving siblings-in-law, John (Ellen) Vajas and Matthew J. (Dara) Vajas; and many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends in the U.S. Portugal and France.

Please join us in remembering this truly incredible man. Share your condolences and memories, or light a candle to honor Agostinho's enduring light that will forever shine in our hearts. Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit lives on in the people and memories he leaves behind now flying with loved ones and Angels. Agostinho will always be remembered for his big smile, hearty hugs and love for his family. We remember him forever.
