Obituary of Greta B. Carey

Please share a memory of Greta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of Greta Carey, a long-time resident of Lake Telemark, Rockaway Township, who passed away on June 17th, 2024.

Greta was born to Paul and Helen Bjercke in Lyndhurst, NJ, in July of 1928. She was raised alongside her 3 siblings and Greta went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She used that degree to become a registered nurse, serving for many years at Dover General Hospital. Over her lifetime Greta brought 4 wonderful children into the world and loved them all dearly. When she was blessed with grand and great grandchildren, she was overjoyed. Her family remarks that there was a never a birthday that went by without a heartfelt card from her.

In her free time, Greta enjoyed gardening, making sure her house was properly maintained, and attending book clubs. Greta was also a member of the Rockaway United Methodist Church and always stayed active in her community. She kept her Norweigan roots alive by being a long-time member of the NorBu Lodge in Lake Telemark.

It brings us sadness to see her pass, but it brings us comfort to know that she is reunited once more with those who passed before her; her siblings, Paul, Judy, and Alice, as well as her husband, Eugene Carey, and grandson, Timothy Taylor. It is now that we look to the loved ones she leaves behind to carry on her memory. Greta’s survivors include her children, William “Burt” Taylor, Lori Halsey, Lisa Ann Massoud, Paul Ostensen (Sarrin), her grandchildren, Joseph, Matthew, Alyssa, Erika, Samantha, Alan, Paul Jr., Jon, Addison, Joy Lynn, as well as many great grandchildren, extended family, and friends that will miss her dearly.

No formal services will be held for Greta, but if you would like to contribute to her memory in your own way, please make a charitable donation to the organization of your choosing. Please also use this time to leave a condolence, share a memory, or light a candle to continue to let Greta’s light shine!
