My first job as a teen was working in the school district office in the early 80’s. Great memories of a sweet man. And I didn’t know we were birthday twins until just now. Thoughts and prayers for Mr. Phillips and his family.

I loved Mr. Phillips and looked at him as another grandfather. He was one of the best next door neighbors and we would see him almost everyday when playing in our backyard. He had the nicest, and most pleasant demeanors and was always so happy to see me and my siblings. His smile would light up a room and I’ll always think of him and sunshine in human form!

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Kay and family as you go through this difficult time. Many memories of Jack through the years at Smittys, the Joey Bella Coffee group and so many Rockaway connections! What a legacy of life Jack lived and may his memories be with us until our last breath! May the comfort of friends and family surround you.

The kindest most gentle man we ever met. I knew my children were in good hands with Jack as superintendent. My son worked for him in the summers all through high school. We spent many Sundays in the parking lot at Giants stadium eating, having a few beers and laughing a lot. You will be missed. R I.P.

Jack was a man who possessed a great sense of humor and emulated a passion for life many can only hope to embrace. Always upbeat and smiling, Jack was a joy to be around. God bless Kay and family. May Our Lord embrace you in his arms with peace and comfort at such a sad time. We are sure Jack is continuing to share his jokes in heaven, now making the angels delight in his presence...

Mr. Phillips was my principal at Lincoln School in the Boro. I don’t remember much from my time as student there but I always remember Mr. Phillips greeting us with a smile and talking sports. My first ever Giants game was actually because of the tickets he gave to my dad and I. To his family and close friends, I’m so sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort knowing his joyous and generous spirit is carried by all the students he’s had throughout his career.

I had Mr. Philips in 7th grade in TJ. As I remember I coud always tell that he was a true gebtleman. He also had Paitions with his students. He always was on an even keel, and I never saw him upset with any of my fellow students. He was a very good teacher, but unfortunately I was a terrible student!! RIP Teach,. You were a good guy. I can see you will be missed by many. I can't remember if I ever had any interaction with you other than school. Now as an adult this is my loss!! Maybe we can hook up later on!! T/C Good Bless!!

Dear Kay, Kim and Family,
We lost a very special friend in dear Jack. He was an extraordinary human being. Why? Jack,
embodied the qualities of caring, sharing, laughing,
intellect, and most importantly love of people.
We were very fortunate to have him share in our lives. No matter how difficult he was feeling he always lifted our spirits. Thank you dear friend.
Respectfully and Fondly,
Pat and Carrie Pinto

I had the privilege of working under Jack back in 1991-93 when he afforded me the opportunity to be the Business Administrator for the Rockaway Borough School District.
Truly, Jack was a great educator, a great man, and a wonderful mentor to me. He once had enough trust in me to run the budget presentation at a joint council-board meeting when he was unable to attend. I would not have been as successful in my career without his guidance. RIP Jack. I'll always hold you in my heart. May God bless your family.

Jack was a great man and he was one of the last few of the gang from Harvey’s in the 80s. He always had a smile and a laugh and along with the late Ray Tarchek, put me on the path that took me into the Navy and beyond. May he rest in peace

Rest in peace, Mr. Phillips. It’s only over recent years on Church Street that I was able to call you Jack. I will forever have memories of you supervising Rockaway Boro summer baseball at TJ, then making your way to Park Lake for lifeguard duty. You are someone I always looked up to. Rest in peace.

What a guy!
What a jokester!
A great teacher, a great lifeguard and a great human being!
Being chosen a his projector person in school, always being whistled at Parks lake , and finally telling each other funny stories as both adults. I hold Jack near and dear to my heart. I think we both may have had similar personalities. Whatever it was, it was eternal. I will miss him dearly and May he rest in peace! Love you!

Sending prayers to all of Jack’s family, may your memories help you at this sad time. I remember him as my teacher, lifeguard and neighbor. I also babysat for his children. I had a chance to speak to him years ago and told him how great his teaching was. We laughed about life, I’m glad I had that time. Prayers to all.
