So sorry to lose Ken. He was such a great guy in so many ways. And did such a great job for all of us in Haverly Systems. Not only doing such a great job but also keeping it fun and enjoyable and always ready for a new exploration or adventure.

Marilyn, Ryan, Amy, Kyle, and Spencer family; I'm sharing in your sadness as you remember Ken. I always enjoyed spending time with Ken, and appreciated his genuine interest in what was going on in my world. May time and the good memories soon ease this trying time.

Hello!
I grew up with Ken and went to Vestal Center Elementary School with him. I lived "on the hill" of Powderhouse Rd. I have many fond memories of him in grade school with our other Vestal Center kids. It is nice to know that he had such a rich and full life and made a difference in the world with his presence.

Dear Marilyn - Ken recruited me for Haverly Systems and made me feel welcome and valued. He proved a hard act to follow and we missed him, but so good that he had you and your families to enjoy his retirement. So sorry for your loss.

When I first met Ken, he was facing a situation no one should have to endure. He had every reason to be angry, depressed, defeated, hopeless, and any negative emotion one can think of. I had several brief conversations with him over the phone, trying to develop a relationship with him, to help as a resource. I could only give him my contact information and let him know I am available should he need anything. He never reached out.
Everything changed one random day in the waiting room. I noticed Ken sitting with Marilyn. I approached them to say hello. I will never forget his words to me a few sentences into the conversation, "You have kind eyes, I WILL talk to you". Immediately I thought "maybe I CAN help him through this ". Our conversation somehow led to books, Ken mentioned Lonesome Dove. I told him I do not like westerns. He asked me what I liked. I described a book, I thought he would like, that I read a while back. He read that book, he did not like it, he said it was too predictable. I told him since he didn't like it, I would read Lonesome Dove. It was a very slow start, but I found that I loved the book. Soon we were reading the rest of the series. A beautiful relationship began.
I am smiling as I write this. Because I did not help Ken through this, his amazing family did. I did not add to his life nearly as much as he added to mine. Ken can only be described as fun, adventurous, loving, kind, intelligent and interesting. He lived his life to the fullest even when he had every right to give up. His family camping trip last August is proof of this. He amazed me every time I saw him. He would always have a smile on his face and funny, adventurous stories to tell. Ken even had Amy telling some of her adventures, which were equally amazing.
Ken's love and dedication to his family, especially Marilyn, is inspiring. I find that I am the fortunate one. I am fortunate to have met this family. Fortunate to have had a friendship with Ken, brief as it was. Our friendship is meaningful and I will always cherish the whittled pickle he gifted to me.
I love that Ken is exploring the universe, the universe is better for having him in it.

Marilyn, kids and grankids, my sincerest condolences to all of you. You were blessed to have such an amazing husband, father and grandpa, and I know he was blessed to have all of you. He loved all of you and his incredible life he shared with you. Kenny was an amazing, thoughtful, kind man, great sense of humor and easy to talk to. We went to high school together, Vestal High School Class of 1964, always in the same homeroom. He was a great "boy" back then and remained that way, a true friend through the years. I will truly miss our talks and not seeing him at the 50+ Reunions. love you, Patti Shoultes
