Obituary of Dorothy M. Lind

Dorothy J. Lind (nee Jendras) passed away peacefully at The Oaks Healthcare Center in Denville, New Jersey on March, 15, 2024, two days short of her 95th birthday.

 

Dorothy was born in St. Albans, New York on March 17, 1929, the youngest of five children. Dorothy loved learning. As a child, Dorothy attended St. Stanislaus Kostka Polish School for several years before moving to the New York Public School System.

 

After graduation from St. John’s University, in Queens, New York, Dorothy taught at the Center Street Elementary School in the Herricks Union Free School District for 30 years.

 

While involved in the Newman Alumni Association of Long Island, Dorothy met John H. Lind, III of Rockville Center, LI, New York. John participated in the D-Day Landing in 1944. The happy couple married on July 4, 1979. During their 31 years of marriage, Dorothy and John traveled the world. Dorothy and John retired to Monroe Township, New Jersey in 1995 before settling into Denville in 2006, at Franciscan Oaks, and later The Oaks.

 

Dorothy’s loving husband, John, predeceased her in January 2011. Dorothy was also predeceased by her siblings, Anthony, who was killed in the Philippines during WWII, Henry, who served in North Africa and Italy during WWII, Hedwiga, and Julia.

 

Dorothy is survived by her nephews, Rev. Frederick Nickel, of the Capuchin Order Beacon, New York and Stephen Jendras and his wife Patti, of Monroe Township, New Jersey, and niece, Barbara Shobert of Gwinnett County, Georgia, eight great-nieces and great-nephews, and many other extended family members.

 

Public Visitation will be held on Friday, March 22nd from 11 am – 12 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm on Friday at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Avenue, Denville. Entombment will follow the next day, March 23rd at 11:30 am at The Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury NY 11590.
