Obituary of Roger W. Flartey
Roger W. Flartey, 86
Roger W. Flartey of Naples, FL, died on Monday, January 22, at Avow Hospice in Naples, Florida, at age 86. Mr. Flartey, the son of the late Harold T. and Sylvia (Lubetkin) Flartey, was born in Dover on September 19, 1937, and grew up in Dover and Mine Hill. A graduate of Dover High School, Lafayette College, and Seton Hall University School of Law, he retired from Amerada Hess Corporation as Director, Benefits, & Personnel Counselor in 1996.
Roger served on active duty in the U.S. Army in 1957-58 and again in 1961-62, at the time of the Berlin Wall crisis, this time as a Sergeant. He was a member of the Lake Hopatcong Elks Lodge #782, the East Dover Social Club, The American Legion Post #91, Wharton, and Dan Michelson Post #740, Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America, Livingston, where he had been the Post Commander. He also was a volunteer for and member of the executive board of the Holocaust Council of Greater MetroWest in Whippany.
Predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (McCarthy) Flartey, and his brother, Raymond Flartey, he is survived by his son, Brian of Naples, FL; his daughter, Tara DiGiacomo, and her husband, Dennis, of Naples, FL; four grandchildren, Cody Flartey, Darren, Derrick, and Angelena DiGiacomo; and his sister-in-law Lynne Flartey of Henderson, NV.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 28th, from 12 to 4 at the Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ. Friends and relatives are invited to meet at the funeral home on Sunday, January 28th, and then proceed to the Denville Cemetery on Monday, January 29th, for graveside services at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Division of Neurology. 341 Civic Center Blvd. Philadelphia, PA 19104.
