Obituary of Dorothy D`Elia
Dorothy D’Elia passed away peacefully on Monday, January 15, 2024. She had shared 94 years of unconditional love, warm laughter, priceless wisdom, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.
Born and raised in New York City to the late Dominic and Nancy Lomuscio, Dorothy was the only child to bless their household. She grew up in Greenwich Village and attended Catholic High School. She married her best friend, Peter D’Elia, in 1950. Together the happy couple settled into the neighborhood of Maspeth in Queens, NY to raise a family of their own. Dorothy was a social butterfly and she loved to shop! When you walked into a supermarket or retail store with Dorothy, you felt like you were with a celebrity; everyone knew her by name! She loved all different kinds of food; whether preparing it at home and enjoying it around the table with her family, or dining out at her favorite restaurants with family and close friends. She loved catching old movies on TV, or going to the theater to see new ones. And her favorite celebrity -- by far – was the iconic Frank Sinatra. She greatly valued being a member of the Italian American Citizen Club in NY. She loved to travel and explore the world by air or via cruise ship, and her favorite place was Hawaii. She was a smart and kind woman. She taught us right from wrong, prepared us for life, and always had a smile on her face. When she said she would pray for you, she meant it. She truly cared about life and the people in hers. Above anything else, her family was her pride and joy. Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, Peter, and her parents, Dominic and Nancy.
Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her loving daughters, Nancy Fabrizio and her husband Dominick and Janet D’Elia; her cherished grandchildren, Daniel Fabrizio and his wife Rachel Fabrizio and Peter Marinello; her treasured great-granddaughter, Emilia “Emmy” Fabrizio; and many dear nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Public Visitation will be held on Monday, January 22nd from 12 - 4 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Funeral Service will take place at 3:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow on Tuesday, January 23rd at 12 pm at St. John Cemetery, 80-01 Metropolitan Ave, Queens, NY 11379. Memorial Donations are being accepted in Dorothy's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital by way of www.inmemof.org to ensure receipt of your donation. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Dorothy here to continue to celebrate her life and let her light shine.
