Obituary of James J Kahrs
After a prolonged illness, James J. Kahrs, 81, passed on August 16, 2023. It brings great comfort
to know that he is at peace.
In December, 1941 Jim was born to Henry and Elizabeth Kahrs in Mt. Vernon, New York. A
graduate of Pleasantville High School and Ithaca College, He pursued a long career as a CPA.,
including various positions with KPMG, General Foods/Kraft and Phillip Morris. Jim was a
resident of Westchester County New York until he moved to NJ to work for RoseArt Industries.
He retired from RoseArt/Cra-Z-Art after serving as CFO.
In his youth Jim was a Silver Scout. While living in Westchester County, he was an active
member of the Lions Club and a Past President. Golf was a passion; and he was a long-time
member of the Paramus, NJ Golf Club.
Jim has left a rich legacy of love, kindness and generosity. He is survived by his wife of 48 years,
Theresa Kahrs, as well as his four children: James Kahrs Jr., Keith Kahrs, Mary Judith Kunhardt,
Jay Kahrs; his grandchildren: Alice Hughes, Sarah Kahrs, Conner Kunhardt, Gabe Kunhardt,
Katharine Kunhardt, Charlotte Kahrs; his siblings: Henry J. Kahrs, Betsy Komonchak; and 5 great
granddaughters.
An intimate “Celebration of Life” will be held at a later date.
Jim was known for his quiet way of caring and was a true “survivor”. If you would like to honor
his memory, please consider making a memorial donation to either St. Jude’s Children’s
Hospital or the American Red Cross Hawaii/Maui to aid the victims of the current wildfires.
