Sis, you have dedicated your whole life to the family.
You've taken care of or help each one of us in the family at one time or another with your wisdom, kindness and thoughtfulness.
Sis, you've excelled at your job at Rockefeller University for many years and you were highly regarded by fellow researchers. You always gave your all in everything you do.
You've said "I have done what I've wanted to do and I have no regrets", so we are happy of your feeling of fulfillment. We Love You........
MAY YOU REST IN PEACE

Rockefeller University was her "Happy Place". Sis loved her work and discovering new things every day! For leisure time, she enjoyed her piano, her favorite piece, Fur Elise.
She enjoyed traveling and took our mother on several trips after our dad passed away.
Retiring from Rockefeller University after over 25 years, Sis took care of Mommy after and then our sister Julia who became disabled. Being the oldest Sis took care of everyone in our family. She loved her family so much. WE LOVE YOU too,
M

Helen and I were very close. When we first arrived in US in 1955, the Shio Family was the Fong Family's only relative in New York. Helen was like a sister to me, always gracious and generous. In the early 1960s when I was working in New York and New Jersey, we had many gatherings with our friends, and we had fun.
Although my work took me away from New York, Helen spent time to visit me in Dallas and Orlando. We had a wonderful family reunion in 2014 at Baltimore. I will miss her dearly.

My best memory of Aunt Helen is when she babysat my sister Karen and I at our Grandmothers home and she fed us hotdogs and made us paper planes, paper boats and (lol) paper guns.
I guess that’s where my sisters love of origami came from.
Rest in peace Aunt Helen

Sis loved to babysit her nieces and nephews when they were younger.
She would take the children, one at a time to the city for some culture and other adventures.
Once, she took Karen, my second oldest daughter to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts for a show. Karen was only 5 years old and they went to the city by subway.
Unfortunately after the performance, Karen had fallen asleep and Sis had to carry her the whole way home!
Needless to say, she called me to pick them up in Flushing subway station on Main ST and Roosevelt Ave when they arrived home. Sis was exhausted! We laughed about it all the time.
Sis, you were the BEST! Always caring and always so generous with your time. You always put everyone else's needs ahead of your own. Missing you and will be thinking of you always. I Love you.....
Little Sis

I will always remember Aunt Helen being very kind and thoughtful. My favorite memory of her was when she sang Memories from Cats at Aunt Bery’s birthday party. She was a very special lady and will be missed.

After an stellar career at Rockefeller University as the Head of the Electron Microscopy Department, Helen Shio retired after 25 years of service
In her retirement she took care of her mother and a younger sister
Helen found time to play piano and learn to brush paint. She also volunteered at Flushing Public Library to teach English to non English speaking immigrants every weekend.
Helen mentored “students” and was well recognized by many of them

Our big sis is the most unselfish and caring person. She always step up and help everyone. Both Sunny and I benefited so many times from her generosity. Sis and I had a very very long chat when she was at Cypress Garden and laughed at a lot of thing. I told her how much Sunny told me how he always appreciated her being my sister and how much fondness he had for her.
While pregnant with Alice, while reaching top cabinet, my stomach was in the way and the Chinese cleaver fell on my foot requiring a lot of stitches. She came and stayed w/me and we sure had such quality visiting in the apt.
She took my kids on the subway to NY and they were so excited for the experience and remember it to this day. There are so many wonderful family memories w/Big Sis. We had such good time talking about the past memories and laughed a lot that day. I did tell her how much Sunny and I love her for being my sister and and part of our family.
What I call her in my pronunciation of Big sis literally means big shoe. Was years later she casually told me and we had such a big laugh and it was our private secret to this day
Rest in Peace and breath comfortable now BIG SHOE, smile with me
We love you
