Obituary of Joan Elva Van Winkle
Joan Elva Van Winkle (Zeliff) passed away at Excel Care in Dover, NJ on June 12, 2023, at the age of 90.
She was born and raised in Morristown, NJ in 1933. She graduated from Morristown High School where she met her husband, Don. Known to her immediate family as ‘Honey’ She has been a resident of Denville since 1954.
Joan had a passion for art. She always spent her time being creative. She was an avid painter, Joan explored and experimented with other mediums such as quilting, sewing, beading and various crafts. She has organized and participated in numerous exhibitions and shows and has won many awards.
Joan attended the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, She was president of the West Morris Dover Art Association, she volunteered at St Clare’s Pastoral Care in Denville, was a member of the Roxbury Art Association, and also volunteered at the Mill Pond Towers in Dover and was an active member of the Denville Community Church Woman’s Club and Quilting Club. Her fondest memories are of spending summers at Green Pond, Shongum Club, Seapointe and Woodloch Pines.
Joan is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Donald Van Winkle, she is also survived by her loving daughter Linda Baty of Byram, and loving son Cliff and his wife Marcia Van Winkle of Poland Ohio. She is also survived by her sister Lee Edmunds and her husband, Tom Edmunds of Hackettstown, as well as many grandchildren and many great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Joan is predeceased by her son, Robert Van Winkle and also by her parents Roland and Elva Zeliff.
