Obituary of Robert Lane
Robert “Bob” Lane passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Boonton Township, NJ on May 6, 2023 at the age of 74.
Born in New York City he grew up in Verona and then moved to Boonton Township, NJ 44 years ago.
He earned his B.A. from Rochester University and went to work as a general contractor,
Real estate developer, running his own business the Lane Group in Denville, NJ.
Bob loved boating and fishing, owning many boats over the years, each one gaining in size, his latest was the 61’ Viking, the “Lady Lane”. Deep sea fishing brought him and his family to such places as Hawaii, Costa Rica, Panama, The Eastern Sea Board from Maine to Florida, Mexico, the Bahamas, St Thomas and many other islands in the Caribbean. These trips were always filled with an experience and often with adventure. He also loved to travel which went hand in hand with his boating and fishing.
From an early age, Bob also had a love for cowboys and country westerns. Bob loved to watch old country westerns, where the good guys always won. This love led him to investing to as many as 10 race horses over the years, and he would often go to races and enjoyed watching them on television.
Over all else, Bob’s number one passion in life was family. He loved to spend time with his family, whether on the boat, at home or at a sporting event, his family was his greatest sense of pride. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Bob was also very involved and passionate about youth sports and youth activities where he was involved with coaching various youth sports for all three of his sons. In addition, he also helped start the local Boy Scout troop. After his sons graduated from Mountain Lakes High School, all three boys attended Bucknell University where they played lacrosse, and Bob could always be found at the games and at the tailgates after which he was in charge of running.
He was pre deceased by his sister Kay Leaird and her husband John Leaird.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Diana Lynn (DiMattia) Lane of Boonton Twp. He is also survived by his loving sons Rob Lane of Boonton Twp., Nick Lane and Anny Penicnack of Boonton Twp., and Mark and his wife Molly of Basking Ridge, NJ, as well as his cherished grandsons Dylan Robert Lane and Kip Randall Lane, and his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday May 12, 2023, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue Denville, NJ 07834, www.normandean.com. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday May 13, 2023, at 10:30AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church 10 North Pocono Road Mt. Lakes, NJ 07046.
Memorial donations can be made in his name to St. Peter’s Orphanage in Denville by way of www.inmemof.org.
