Obituary of Roger John O'Neill
Roger John O`Neill passed away peacefully in New York with his loving family by his side on Thursday, October 20th, 2022 at the age of 72. Roger was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed by many.
Roger was born in Montclair, New Jersey on a beautiful summer’s day in June, the youngest of three kids to the late Walter and Elsie (Bosiak) O’Neill. He grew up in Livingston and graduated from Livingston High School (class of 1968) where he excelled at varsity football and baseball. After completing high school, he continued his education and received his bachelor’s in accounting. Always wanting to learn how to build houses, Roger pursued a career in carpentry after college and developed his skills to become a master carpenter. Following in his father’s footsteps, Roger went on to obtain his electrical contractor’s license and owned and operated his own businesses, the most recent being Sunnyhill Electrical Services. As a mentor, he found great satisfaction in passing along his knowledge to others and providing them with opportunities to reach the potential he would see within.
Roger settled down in Rockaway, where he built the big family he always wanted alongside the love of his life Joy. A true family man, he was actively involved in his children’s lives and loved coaching their various sports teams during their childhood. Throughout his life he always made time for family and friends, enjoying together the things he loved doing most, like golfing, crossword puzzles, reading a good book, boating and fishing on the ocean, and family pool parties. During social events, Roger was always the life of the party and was renowned for his sense of humor and storytelling abilities. An avid sports fan, Roger was always rooting for, or yelling at, his favorite teams (NY Giants, NY Mets, NY Rangers, NY Knicks, and Manchester United). He loved going on family vacations to the Jersey Shore, having fond memories of his childhood summers spent surfing and enjoying the beach.
Roger’s memory will live on through his devoted wife Joy of 43 years. His loving children, Sean (Lauren) O’Neill of Denville, Brian O’Neill of Rockaway, Kevin O’Neill (Ashley Reed) of Raritan, and Kaitlin (Joseph) Jarroush of Midland Park. As well as his adoring grandchildren Brady, Connor, Harper, and Arya.
