Obituary of Arlene Mae Campisi

Please share a memory of Arlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Arlene Mae Campisi passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. She had shared 81 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.

Born and raised in Weehawken to the late Gustav and Frieda, she graduated from Weehawken High School in 1959. Arlene was an amazing, independent woman with a love for dance. At the age of 18, she moved to California; Arlene missed her family and returned home a couple years later. Family was always the most important thing in her life. A perpetual hard worker, she met her future husband while at work in NYC. She married her best friend and soulmate, James Michael Campisi, on October 3, 1964. The happy couple settled into Jersey City before finding their forever home in Flanders where they raised a family of their own. While in Flanders, she raised her children to be independent and gave them a strong foundation for life. The many pool parties and constant attention made Arlene’s home the place to be for the kids in the neighborhood.  Lovingly considered a second mom to many, she always called out “Hey Sweetie” when she saw you.

Arlene was wise beyond her years. Not only did she understand from a young age that family comes first, but she also valued good friends. She put in the effort to make sure her friends knew how appreciated and loved they were, which was evident in the many lifelong friendships she shared. She gave 100% of herself 100% of the time. She was always kind and generous and you never had to question her loyalty. There was a special place in her heart for her “Flanders Gang” who made the time to get together often to enjoy each other’s company and share in the many joys and sorrows of life.  The ladies of the gang supported each other and got together every Thursday for ladies night. Christmas was her favorite holiday as this was the time to spoil her loved ones and most importantly, spend quality time. Her grandchildren became her pride and joy. When she found time for herself, Arlene could be found accomplishing puzzles!

Although we are deeply saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, James, her parents, her brother, Robert, and brother-in-law, Richie.

Her legacy of love and light will continue on in the hearts of her three adored children including Sheri Campisi and Jennifer Hedges; her cherished grandsons, James and Sean Hedges; her caring sister-in-law, Marie Piazza; her faithful grandpups including Sally and Hera; and many dear extended family, nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 5th, 2022, beginning at 12:00 pm at the Meadow Wood, 461 NJ-10, Randolph, NJ 07869.  All that knew and loved her are welcome.
