Obituary of Albert R. DeLuna

Albert R. DeLuna passed peacefully on March 2, 2022.  He shared 91 years of love and faith with his family. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, March 6^th from 2-5 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 7^th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Myers Ave, Denville.  Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the good work of Young America’s Foundation.

Born in New York to the late Nicola and Filomena (nee Ricardi) DeLuna, Al was one of six children to bless the family.  After his schooling he was drafted into the US Army, proudly serving in Korea. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to NY.  It was there that he met Alicia Lopez.  As they say, the rest was history.   They fell in love and married on a crisp sunny day in January of 1956.  They settled in the Bronx to start their family. Some years later, they headed to Parsippany NJ where they happily raised their five children with love and laughter.  He had a quick wit about him that kept his crew in stitches often. 

He worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He dedicated over thirty years of service to the Western Electric Division of AT&T.  After retirement, he was able to enjoy a lot more time traveling. They were avid travelers and often vacationed to South and Central America.  Al enjoyed any trip to AC or Las Vegas also.  He always enjoyed gambling, whether it be the craps table, the slots, the dining and all of the livelihood that came with it.  Trips to the casino with Alicia were always wonderful times. He was an avid dancer and with his wife beside him, they were truly a site to be seen on the dance floor.  They won many competitions through the years.  They worked hard and were fluid together.  Al enjoyed music, particularly Opera and was always humming and whistling.

Above everything, he loved being with his family.  Dad loved his family and they were always his top priority.  He looked forward to every gathering, whether a Father’s Day brunch, birthday celebration or a simple game night.  His proudest title was “Pop Pop” and those who adored him the best, affectionately crowned him this name. Although we are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is at peace and watching over his family with love.

He leaves joyful memories to his wife Alicia of 66 years; his children Nicholas (Barbara), Albert (Cindy), Robert, Patricia Simmons (William) and Theresa Scheuble (Nicholas); his grandchildren Alicia and Christina De Luna, William, Daniel and Christopher Simmons, Natasha, Leonieke and Max Scheuble, Eric Hougue and Ivy Miller; his great granddaughter Arya Hougue; his dear siblings Anna Conte (Frank) and Joseph DeLuna and many more loving relatives and friends. His siblings Mary Fiore and John and Anthony DeLuna passed previously.
