I had wanted to be a singer since I left high school. Many years later I took a singing class at a local community school and I asked the teacher for the name of a voice teacher who could coach me in singing arias, art songs and other classical repertoire. She gave me Karen's name. I had the information for 18 months before I dared to call. And so began 6 years of weekly voice lessons, NATS competitions, recitals and a cabaret. I enjoyed all of it immensely because Karen was a special person. She helped me realize a dream. My sorrow at her passing is profound. I offer my condolences to Rayne and Kia whom I first met when they were very young.

Karen has always been my guardian angel throughout the course of my life, knowing me since I was five years old. Karen taught voice lessons to me in middle school and high school not only sharing her knowledge of music, but also applying music as a tool to heal our minds and bodies. In classes and lessons with Karen, she would always find a way to connect the topic to a deeper perspective that was true, and a perspective you could carry with you for the rest of your life. I am inspired by Karen everyday and I know she still continues to be a guardian angel for us all.

We had already known and worked closely with Karen while she was Choir Director at Preakness Church in Wayne, where we are longtime members. She was fantastic! So great with the choir, so beloved by everyone there, and it was always a great experience to make music with her.
Then, we were so thrilled to know that she would be joining the adjunct faculty at William Paterson! We got to see her on the other six days of the week! Again, she was so loved and respected by her students in the classical voice program, as well as in the popular music program, and by all of us on the faculty.
Karen was, and is a very special person and presence - we will not forget her, and she has made an impact on all of our lives as a musician and as a person.

Karen and I met as neighbors 15 years ago in our new apartments when we were both trying to “shake off” our significant others. Yes, I can still hear her singing beautiful soprano classical music at 3 AM next door. Through the years, we transitioned together from G&Ts to green juice, meat lovers to vegan, barbecues with COALS to gas grill, a bunch of different bo friends, and our kids’ birthday parties, talents and woes.
We adventured together, with or without kids in tow, to Deer Lake, New Jersey shore: bestest threesome friendgirls in Wildwood, white water rafting in the Poconos, Sheboygan FALLS-awesome family and friends at lake house, Rhode Island when we both determined we were “lake people” not “ocean people”, Fort Lauderdale Florida to Hippocrates, Las Vegas-stays there, and up the Rhine on a river boat.
But the best was Jacuzzi time. Sharing our secrets, feelings and problem-solving then still conversing in the snow in the driveway steaming in our bathrobes.
Yes, Karen is my sister as I called her. From meeting next-door to never do us part. Side-by-side or miles apart, sisters will always be connected by heart.
Alan, Ray, Vi and I all love you Karen. Catch you on the rebound!
Sending love to Rayne and Kya!

I did not learn of Karen's passing until just now. I am crushed. I was one of her many adult students, first encountering her 20 years ago. She was just so important to my life - I learned to much, and she was always encouraging. To her children, to all her family and friends, I offer my deepest condolence.

Karen was a very special person who was both kind and extremely talented. I’ll always remember her passion she showed working with the singers at GTA. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

When I think of Karen I see her bright smile and hear her frequent and infectious laugh. She was a dear high school friend. Karen encouraged me into one of my biggest leaps ever, to perform opposite her in the sound of music. I’m thinking of several little stories that make me chuckle…. keeping them for myself.
My condolences to Karen’s family and friends.

Having only met Karen once on a Zoom call with Lizanne, she made a mark on me. Such a beautiful aura came from her! We had a wonderful "girl's Zoom night" with lots of laughter. She will certainly be missed by many. Blessings to Karen's family - she fought the good fight.
