Obituary of Ann Sullivan

Ann M. Sullivan passed away peacefully on October 23, 2021. She shared 83 years of love and faith with her family. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 28^th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, Denville. Interment to follow at the Denville Cemetery. Donations in her name may be made to the good work of The Denville Public Library.

Born in 1937 in Hoboken, NJ to the late Eugene and Marion Marren, Ann was one of eight children to bless that family.  She graduated from St. Michael’s high school in Union City.  From spending summers at Great Kills, SI, her family came to be friends with the Sullivan family who lived there full time. Ann started dating John Sullivan and they were married in April of 1960. They started a family and eventually settled in Mt. Tabor. Ann loved to entertain, always looking for an excuse to open her home to friends and extended family. Of special importance were happy hours, Sunday dinners, the annual Children’s Day in Mt. Tabor and simply having friends over to enjoy time with around the pot belly stove.  She was a faithful Catholic and attended St. Mary’s Church for over 50 years, donating her time and energy to many fundraisers and events through the years including countless hours of bingo. She even gained the nickname “Hot Dog Annie” for her help at school lunches. Ann eventually returned to the workforce, working for many years at Bon Venture Services. As the years went on and she became a grandmother, she was crowned with the title of “Gigi”.  This certainly was her proudest role – doting over her two grandchildren. She participated in all their childhood milestones and often treated them to long stays at her winter home in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. In her later years she enjoyed the Grandparents Group, chair yoga with the Seniors and, being an avid reader, taking advantage of all the library had to offer.  Above all, she loved being with her family for a good meal and a cold glass of white wine.  Although we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace and watching over her family with love and pride.  

She leaves beautiful memories to her children John P. Sullivan and Tara Baumann (Jim); her adored grandchildren Alexander and Juliana Baumann; her dear siblings Joan Cannon, Frances Tully, Joseph Marren, Mary Fitzpatrick and Grace Sodano (Frank); her sister in law Lee Sullivan and many more dear relatives and friends.  Ann is predeceased by her husband John; daughter Maryann; siblings Marie Ponteliona, Eugene Marren; and in-laws Jean Marren, Tom Cannon, Jack Tully, Elizabeth Marren, Bob Fitzpatrick and Joe Ponteliona.
