Obituary of Lillie Mae Gibson

With heavy hearts we share the passing of Lillie Mae Gibson.  She devoted 104 years of love and faith to her family. She passed peacefully on September 30^th.  Private arrangements were held under the direction of the Norman Dean Home For Services, in Denville, NJ. 

Born in Virginia of 1917, Lillie was one of ten children.  Being the second oldest she took on many roles through the years…. big sister, mother, caretaker, and farm hand.  As a young girl she stopped attending school to help the family survive.  In 19—she met James Levy Gibson and the rest was history.  They married in 1941 and settled in Lakewood, NJ to start a family of their own.

She was a dedicated, loving wife and mother who felt the world needed help.  That caused her to become heavily involved in the NAACP as a board member, working for change.  But Jehovah knew she could help in a greater way.  Her oldest son James Gibson shared with her what he was learning and how it was changing his life.  At the age of 58, Lillie was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witness’ in 1975.  Now she used her strong convictions in a different capacity to help all people! 

She enjoyed dedicating many hours volunteering her time in helping others learn about God.  Lillie also enjoyed the privilege of hosting congregation meetings at her home.  But one of the most memorable things about Lillie was how she took care of and took in those whom she considered to be friends and family. 

Predeceased by her husband James “John” Gibson (1986); her son James “Butch” Gibson (2002) and her seven siblings; she leaves joyful memories to her children Willie and Betty; her adored grandchildren, great grandchildren, her cherished sisters,  and many more dear relatives and friends.
