Obituary of John M. Bilza

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

                      -“Happiness is a Poppy hug.”

John M. Bilza, passed peacefully on September 3, 2021.  He shared 82 years of love and faith with his family.  Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, September 8th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 9th at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church, Denville. Entombment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.  Donations in his name may be made to the good work of the American Kidney Fund by way of www.inmemof.org.

Born in Kearny, John was one of two sons to bless the Bilza family.  After graduation, he joined the family business, Devon Electric.  On a beautiful spring day in 1960, he married his longtime sweet heart Geraldine Moniz and the rest was history. A few years later they settled in Boonton Twp. With their young family. John worked hard to provide a good life for his family. He devoted himself to the family business alongside his father Michael J. and his brother Michael F. Bilza. He has served as the President of the company for many years. He held the NJ State electrical license # 106! He was a skilled and talented electrician…and always neat.

John enjoyed bowling through the years, annual trips to Florida with Gerry and keeping a beautiful yard. He was a loyal and proud NY Giants and NY Yankees fan.  He never missed a game. He was passionate for his teams and the best games have always been the ones spent with his grandson Michael.  Those two were thicker than thieves. He was the best Poppy and this was certainly his proudest title.  He adored all the kids and loved having them near. Recently John became a Great Poppy…certainly another blessing in his life. Although we are saddened by his passing, we take comfort in knowing he is watching over his family with love and pride.

Surviving are his wife Geraldine “Gerry” of 61 years; his children John Bilza and his wife Debra and Patricia Bilza and her significant other William Gibson; his grandchildren Michael S. Bilza and his wife Lisa, Kevin and Melissa Bilza; his great granddaughter Brooke Bilza; his brother and sister in law Michael & Karen Bilza; his niece Jane Reeves and her husband James; his great niece and nephew Sarah and Justin Bilza and many more dear relatives and friends.  Predeceased by his nephew James Bilza.
