Obituary of Evelyn H. Thompson
Evelyn Lillian H. Thompson passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at The Hospice of the VNA in Dover. She had shared 88 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and amazing memories with family and friends.
Born in Morristown, Evelyn was raised in Morris Plains by the late George and Evelyn Lillian Hayward. For the past 67 years she resided in her beloved town of Denville.
After graduating High School, she continued to work hard throughout her entire life. She had many careers in Administrative Departments, first in NYC, then at Morris County Savings Bank until she became a Mom, when that became her full time job. In 1977, she went back to work at Imperial Office Equipment until 1992 when she found her niche at Maersk Line until 2006 when she decided to retire. While always holding down a job and being an amazing mother and grandmother, she also was a dedicated member of The Church of the Saviour in Denville since 1957 where she was a Vestry Clerk for two years, and also tending to their Memorial Garden for many years. Evelyn was also an avid member of the St. Martha’s Guild, and was the proud recipient of the Episcopal Award – World of Women and the Hegg Lifetime Achievement Award. Evelyn loved gardening, knitting, and baking. She truly was a remarkable woman who will forever be treasured in our hearts and souls.
Left to continue her legacy of hard work and devotion are her adored children, Nancy (Christopher) Landry and Glenn (Michele) Thompson; her cherished grandchildren, Karen (Charles) Hayden, Kevin Landry, and Gregory (Lindsey) Landry; her treasured great-grandchildren, Alex, William, and Addison; and many more extended family and dear friends. She joins her parents and siblings, Nora H. Seymour and George E. Hayward, as well as her life companion of 35 years, Leonard Ziacoma, in Heaven.
Public Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 18th from 2 – 5 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, July 19th at 10 am at Church of the Saviour, 155 Morris Ave, Denville, NJ 07834. **Masks are required to be worn at all times in the church.** Burial will follow at Denville Cemetery. Donations in Evelyn’s memory are being accepted to Church of the Saviour, 155 Morris Ave, Denville, NJ 07834. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Evelyn here to continue to celebrate the incredible life she endowed to us.
