Obituary of Gerard J. Sedwick

Please share a memory of Gerard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gerard Joseph Sedwick, 60, passed away peacefully at Newton Hospital on March 28, 2021. Jerry was born September 18, 1960 at Saint Clare’s Hospital, Denville, New Jersey to Floyd J. And Mary Jane (Pierz) Sedwick.

Jerry joined the workforce early framing and roofing houses before becoming a 25-year member of Carpenters Local Union 254. He was an avid skier and a member of the Short Hills Ski Club.  He was a driving force in keeping the lodge maintenance in great shape even through his illness.  Jerry really enjoyed the annual ski trips out west or to Europe with some of his closest friends. He was a big fan of live music, where you could catch him at a Grateful Dead or Allman Brothers concert and enjoyed many live music festivals. Jerry also enjoyed motorcycles, surf fishing, golfing and was a NY Jets, NJ Devils, and Villanova basketball fan, as well as cheering on his nieces and nephews throughout the years.

Above all, Jerry was always family-oriented, never missing a family activity or celebration.

Jerry is survived by his loving mother, Mary Jane Sedwick of Denville NJ, brother Christopher and Dawn Sedwick of Denville, sister Mary Beth Sedwick and Helen Wortham of Narberth, Pa., and sister Joanne and Jason Ervey of Andover, NJ.  He was a beloved uncle of Danielle, Benjamin, Hannah, Julia, Sean, Lindsey, Matthew, and Alex. Jerry was especially proud of all of his nephews and nieces and their parents who raised them to be good young adults with bright futures. He was predeceased by his loving father Floyd (Joe) and by his brother Martin, who was survived by his wife Shelley of Glendale, Arizona.

Public Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 3rd from 9 – 10:30 am at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. Burial will follow, privately. Jerry will be laid to rest with his family at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society. Please leave a condolence, light a candle, and share your favorite memory of Jerry here to continue to celebrate the incredible life he endowed to us.
