Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Miller
Mary Elizabeth Miller (Hommey) passed away on February 25, 2021, at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ at the age of 86.
Born in Rostraver, and raised in Webster, PA, she would marry Joseph Miller in 1954, whom she met in high school. Joseph was an engineer which resulted in moving 13 times in their 57 years of marriage, finally settling back in Rostraver, PA after retirement. Mary moved to Denville in Fall of 2020 to be closer to family, where she had visited often, and felt very welcomed.
Mary loved to crochet and do needlepoint, she made Christmas stockings for her entire family, crocheted scarves, hats and mittens for all the friends and was an active member of the Winey Wednesday Club. She loved to read and was an avid word search puzzler. Mary also loved to bake, especially the Christmas cookies baking day with Grandma that family and friends participated in, featuring over 12 types of cookies. She enjoyed trips to downtown Denville, Broadway theater and eating out. Mary had a passion for yarn and earrings. Trips to Michael's or Joann's were a highlight and she would always put earrings on when she got dressed in the morning. From petit formal to fun seasonal her current collection is well over 200 pairs. She could be seen on the sidelines at Morris Rugby games, cheering on some of her grandchildren, or sharing comments on Facebook with those who lived further away.
Even though she had moved away she was still an active member of the Rostraver, PA Historical Society, contributing her personal pictures and memorabilia to their collection and had been an active member of St Anne's parish. Locally, she was a member of the St. Mary’s Prayer Shawl Ministry. She enjoyed working on her family's genealogy and has gone back many generations, even finding new family members as far away as France. Above all else, number one in Mary’s life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph V. Miller in 2011, as well as her brothers Charles and Robert Hommey.
Mary is survived by her loving children Mark and his wife PJ of Denville, NJ and Sarah and her husband Larry Owensby of Mooresville, NC. She is also survived by her grandchildren Brendan Ireland (Sandy Tat), Tabitha Ireland (Deejay Paredi), Christina Miller (Homer E. Wanamaker, Jr.), Hayley Ellis - with whom she shared a birthday (Andrew Allison), Daniel Miller (Dana Burkard), her great grandchildren Natalie Ellis and Meadow Rose Paredi and also by her sister Dorothy Conklin. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
