Obituary of Calvin E. Horsman

Calvin E. Horsman, 85, of Denville (formerly Dover), NJ, passed peacefully on Sunday, November 1, 2020 following a brief illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 7th at 10 am at Saint Mary’s Church in Denville. Interment to follow at Locust Hill Cemetery in Dover. Friends and relatives may visit on Friday, Nov. 6th from 4 to 8 pm at the Norman Dean Home For Services. Donations in his name may be made to the good work of Saint Mary’s Church (Denville) by way of www.inmemof.org.

Calvin was born on Long Island, NY on May 26, 1935 as the only son and one of five children to Gurney and Dorothy (nee Dahlstrom) Horsman. He grew up in Mountain Lakes, NJ, and following graduation from Mountain Lakes High School was accepted at Brown University. Upon graduation from Brown in 1958, he served in the United States Army including being stationed in Germany. When he left the Army he returned to New Jersey to raise his family and pursue a career in insurance. In 1978, he married Noreen Finnerty and settled in Rockaway Township (Dover). He ran his own insurance agency in Morristown before ultimately retiring. Calvin was a longtime member of Saint Mary’s Church (Denville) and the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick - Morris County, and a supporter of various local and regional charitable organizations. He enjoyed golf, spending summers at his family’s home in Maine, and spending time with friends and family. He was caring and kind and we take comfort in knowing he is with his dear Noreen once again.

Predeceased by his wife Noreen in 2017, he leaves behind his children Kristine Goodwin and Thomas Horsman and their spouses, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, his sisters Dorothy Wurman, Susan Allmendinger, and Sandra Leonard and their families, as well as many dear nieces,nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, other relatives, close friends and church family members.
